I've shot 100 rounds of my own Hornady 68gr HPBT's in my .223 and the best I've got was 0.459" @ 100 yards. I've just ordered 200 rounds of the Sierra MatchKing 69gr HPBT's to see which is better. I'm shooting a Remington 700 VTR .223 22" barrel 9" twist.

I've got a Savage VLP with a 9 twist.
I tried the 68gr. Hornady's.
The 69gr. Sierras are much more accurate in my rifle.
I use Varget powder.

I see, I use Varget as well.
I can't wait to try those Sierra's. What kind of groups do you get with the SMK?

The best group so far for 5 shot group at 100yds. is 1/4 in.
Can I do that consistently.
NO WAY!!.
I'm using 23.8gr. of Varget with an OAL of 2.260.
I've just got a Stony Point(now carried by Hornady) OAL gauge
and am now going to seat the bullet closer to the lands.
I've got a lot to learn.
I think I'll stick with the Sierras and my last purchase was a box of 500
rather than scrounging all over for the 100 packs.

I wouldn't worry too much about what your best group measures, and think more about the average. In 100 shots you will get some great groups even with crap ammo.
As to your question, I voted Sierra but let your barrel decide. Also check out Berger.

Haven't tried the 68 or 69s yet in my Tikka Varmint 1 in 8 twist. Will watch this with interest. I HAVE shot the Hornady 75 gr. HPBT in front of H335 and Varget with no noticeable change in accuracy at 100. My rifle shoots everything the same from 40 gr. bullets up to the 75 gr I tried, even with varying loads behind them. The only exception I've found so far was surprisingly with Sierra 60 gr. HP bullets and H335. I actually shot an oblong hole with them and 25.3 gr of H335! Weird considering that isn't a target bullet, eh? It works beautifully on gophers though :D
