I'd like to mount a cheap dot on my 858, i've searched the forums high and low and have come up with a few brands that others have recomended, does anyone know which is the better red dot? what others should I be looking at in that price range?

Will the larger lenses be better for two eye operation, such as the 1x32, is the larger lense a good thing?

bushnell trophy 1x25, 3 M.O.A., $180

thanks for lookin

I have the old bushnell trophy T-dot. Got it for $115 used on EE. Comes with red and green reticle settings, but the green is very faint and good for low light, but even then the red stands out more.

I don't know about larger lens, but it's actually not as big as it looks since the front is just a shroud kind of thing with the real 'lens' being recessed into it. I would also think that the shorter the scope is / closer the front and rear lenses are, the larger your viewing angle is going to be since these are zero magnification.

Any ways, thats just my theory. You should look through the scopes your self to see.

This is basically what it looks like through the T-dot. Because there is no magnification, the sides of the tube end up covering a large portion of your viewing area. But hey It's not like some one is trying to shoot you, maybe a problem if you use it for hunting or something.

I'm going to put a red dot on my 858 too...I kind of leaning towards the Bushnell Trophy 1X25, but I would like other opinions/options as well. :)

I can only speak from experience of the bushnell trophy T dot and say its not bad. It is rated for centrefire rifles and shotguns and the paperwork says it has a lifetime warranty. I had to return the first one I bought because the rheostat that control color and intensity of the T dot was inconsistent and I was worried it might get worse. Its certainly decent to look through and is pretty much just clear, unmagified glass with little color distortion. The T and small centre dot is pretty sharp, as long as you focus on the distance, and not on the reticle itself.

That makes sense, so if your theory is correct, the viewing angle from the shorter 1x25 bushnell could be wider than the 1x32 bushnell... interesting.

I like the look of that T-dot and it seems that bushnell really improved on their older version, I guess the main problem is that it has a fixed mount so I would have to pray that it is the right heigh for my rifle.

Whoops, didn't realise it was you.

Yes theoretically, if you had a measurement of the distance between the lenses for each one, you could use trigonometry to figure out the viewing angle difference.

Ya it's me :) good work with that qb stock, just needs a lil sanding.

Measuring the distance would be impossible since no one states that info with their product but this is what I pulled off the bushnell site.

bushnell 1x32 Field of View (ft@100 ft. / m@100 m) 44 / 14.6
bushnell 1x25 Field of View (ft@100 ft. / m@100 m) UNLIMITED!

How a red dot can have unlimited fov confuses me, it's gota end somewhere, there is a plastic cover over that lense!!
