Which One To Buy?

I am just getting back to reloading after 20 years of being away from the sport of shooting, and dont know what to buy. I dont want to manually load each bullet, but I dont want to buy something that will make the investment stupid.

I have a handle on a Dillon 650 with the case feeder, mount, one set of dies for $1500. Is this a good price? (brand new), or should I look elsewhere?

Could someone help me on this? Something on the 500 rounds per hour would be okay.

I appreciate any help and info on prices and equipment.

You might also want to take a look at the Hornady Lock n Load. It is also a good, solid setup, especially if you are going to be loading rifle. I have seen them both and because of the design, the Hornady is a more solid press for larger calibers.

Try Higginsons for Canadian prices. I am getting a new one from the US through friends, less than $500 US with casefeeder. The casefeeder looks almost identical to the Dillon.

Gobles Guns and Tackle in London Ontario appears to have the Hornady Lock'n'Load on for a good price.Under $170.00 I believe.

higginsons

I plan to mostly reload restricted so I need basically a press that can switch from40 cal, 45 cal and some rifle (45/70, 223. 300 win mag). Where is higginsons and what link do I try?

Does anyone have any info on any other press that would come complete for about $500-$600, and can do 500 rounds per hour?

Thanks again for any info.

I should add that I am now using a Lee Loadmaster for pistol calibers. They are a good press, cheap, a little fiddley to set up, but once you have them going I have had very good results. It is a 5 station press so you can use separate seaters and crimpers. I will keep the Lee even after I have the Hornady.

For most larger rifle cartridges I use a single stage press. It just depends on how much rifle ammo you are going to load. The lee is capabile of loading rifle, I just haven't tried it.

Note that much of the 223 ammo, even commercial, has crimped primers. You will need a method of removing the crimps before loading. The only press that can do this automatically is the Dillon 1050.

Some people turn their noses down on Lee equipment but I, and others are very pleased with them, especially for pistol calibers. A complete setup, with their case feeder, (a semi auto feed) and a set of dies is about $380 Cdn. Just be prepared to do a little fiddling. The people who have had bad experiences with Lee, typically have not put in a bit of "tinker time" into it.

quite a drop from the 585 they had it at before!! I think maybe thats the single stage hornady for 170

wow

you mean people can actually reload 500 rounds an hour!
geez, i'm just learning from my old man and with our rcbs press i'd be lucky to load 30-40 an hour, that is priming, weighing and dropping, and bullet seating
geez louise!:)

It's described on their web site in the Spring Re-loading Specials.I've never re-loaded a single round, yet,so I was trying to contribute what little I could.Maybe the model that I was refering to is "baby steps"or bared down.If anyone with experience looks it up on the web site goblesgunsandtackle, they could offer an opinion for a newbie.
