This is my first post on the Airgun forum, so here goes. Bass Pro Shops has a sale on 2 pellet rifles. Which one would you choose and why? Note that I don't need a $400+ plus air gun. For that kind of dough I would just buy another .22 or a .17 HMR. Feel free to suggest other air rifles, but remember that I will not spend large dollars on a pellet gun. It will be used to whack crows/magpies in my yard.

Ruger Air Hawk Elite Combo - 1000 fps and comes with a 3-9X40 scope- $199.94
Crosman Quest Combo - 1000 fps and comes with a 4X32 scope - $109.94

I have the Crosman Quest and love it. I did however, change out the trigger for a smooth shooting GTXIII trigger.

I have a GTX1 in my Gamo hunter, and a GTX2 in my Quest 1000.
They do make a real difference, don't they. :D
In answer to the original post:
The Quest 1000 is a pretty good value for what it is.
Mine shoots 8.4 grn JSB Exacts at about 900 FPS and has a tendency to shake its bolts loose.
(This is easily remedied with Loc-Tite blue)KD

the Ruger AirHawk Elite is a copy of the Diana 34, it's actually a decent rifle.. I've tuned a couple for some customers and they come out good.. They average around 920-930 fps with a 7.9gr pellet.

Well I went to Bass Pro Shops yesterday (Saturday) to pick up a new air rifle. Unfortunatley of the 4 models they had on sale in the sale flyer, 3 were reduced to only the floor model left in stock. I wanted a "new in box" rifle that had not been handled by umpteen hundred people, so I picked up the Gamo Big Cat 1200. I have only shot it twice in my basement, but it seems like a nice rifle. Once i get it sighted in (it came with a 4X scope), I should be off to the races.

PS - I am ordering a GRT-III trigger for it as well.
