So I'm finally ready to buy a scope, and I have $1500.
I like to do a lot of load development, and target shooting in general,so mostly shooting off a bench at 100 -300 yards.
I want about 25 X on the max end and clarity is my main concern. FFP or SFP. MOA preferred, but could live with mil:)

I'm going to rule out the scopes I've already had,
Sightron stac
Burris veracity
Bushnell elite
NF SHV 3-20 ( excellent glass but want to go to 25).

And scopes I'm just not interested in.
Sightron s111, (I'm just not a fan of the centre dot)
Bushnell dmr (not a fan of the 34 m tube).
NF NXS( its over my budget).
Nikon

So what's left?

I seen a March on the EE ,but it was $1800 and I'm not sure about the clarity.
I've been thinking hard about the Vortex PST gen 11.( not interested in a gen 1).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

And clarity trumps all,for me. Ha ha

It's going on an MV.

I'm sorry about another optic thread but this has been driving me nuts..
I just can't decide:)

I have never seen one but Athlon is new to the scene.

beyond that, the SIII's are your best glass imho for this budget. Then there is used...

Get behind the scopes you are interested in and see for yourself.

Jerry

Leupold make a great scope for reasonable money. Not sure what it costs for a scope like you are interested in but i love the few I have and they cost half of what Swarovski etc cost.

Not a fan of the Burris 34 tube.
And Leupold don't have the magnification I'm looking for ,in my price range.

Those athlons are getting good reviews though, but can't find a Canadian dealer for them.

I'm soon gonna crack a bottle of Gibsons finest, that'll help me decide before the night is over....LOL

Be careful with the Gibson's Finest tonight friend..............don't drink and order stuff on the internet! At least wait until the sober light of a new day before pulling the trigger on your purchase!
You can end up with all kinds of interesting shipments arriving at your house that while vaguely familiar you don't have a clear recollection of ordering..................

Well I have $1500+ taxes now,but As the bottle get emptier,my budget may get fuller...ha ha.

I'm so tempted by the Vortex gen 11.

I just hate looking through hazy glass though:)

I did, but his opinion of clarity and mine may differ.

I wasn't quite sure if if the gen 2 is clear at 25 or just not as clear as the NXS.

I've owned an NXS and a SHV.
If the Vortex is as clear as the SHV ,I'm good with that.

But if it gets a bit hazy at the top end, like the veracity and the Stac,I owned, well I don't want that.

Now ,if it was clear ,like the 1-7 stac,I bought off you, then yes, I want it.

The only reason I'm not into the S111 ,is the centre dot, but I've said that plenty of times before.

I really don't care what reticle it has,as long as it got a fine crosshair .

So the only thing I can really compare to ,in the $1500 range,is SHV.
Only I rather have 25 max instead of 20,so that's why I ruled out the SHV.

But if the clarity is on par with the SHV,I'm good with that.

Why not consider the SIII8-32X56 with a FCH reticle?

Within budget and has all the features you want... and great glass.

Jerry
I like that reticle better than the dot,but kinda thinking a smaller crosshairs.
Like the bushnell LRHS 3-12 .. to bad that don't come in 25x

32 is a bit more than I need as well.
Probably don't need 25 either, but it's what I want.

Jerry the Sightron has great glass, I know,as I had stac1-7 from you.
But your reticle choices are way behind,in my opinion.

But thanks for your advice on the 8-32,

Let me drink on it:)

In that price range I can't think of anything which would trump the Sightron SIII 8-32x56 .....I wish the Sightron 6-24 was a 56 objective instead of a 50 otherwise I would have purchased one or two. I have heard several other guys say the same thing.

It's too bad Sightron doesn't make a 5-25x56 FFP with 25 or more moa per turn....I bet that would be a hot seller....

I'd really like to try the S111, but from the other two I've owned,I don't like the reticle.

I just picked up an Athlon Ares BTR 4.5-27x50 in mils, took it out this morning and got it dialed in. For the price around $1,300 from Red Star target co in Calgary, AB I am quite impressed with it. I bought it as a replacement while my HDMR is being repaired and I have no complaints. Lots of features for the price, glass seemed on par with my HDMR in my eyes and the tracking was right on. And they have lifetime warranty. I would recommend one in that price range forsure.

Occasionally, you can find a used NXS around that price point. The last 2 I picked up were around $1600.

I've owned a couple PST's, and while they are good glass - I didn't find that they tracked very well.

That's a good price for an NXS.

I shot an email off to PR,regarding a Sightron S111 6-24 LR fine duplex reticle.
See how that goes.
