Hello all......I'm buying my first hunting rifle. After reading many threads from this forum I think I'm going to go with a Tikka T3 lite SS synthetic 30-06 with a Bushnell elite 3200 3-9X40. As far as mounting the scope I was figuring on the Optimax system (I hate cheaping out on the crucial parts). Anyway, does anybody know what the appropriate rings are? As far as I can tell there is only one base to buy, but I'm not sure which rings (ie: 1"? low, Xtra low, Med)
If anybody knows anything about this setup I'd appreciate the recommendations,
Regards
Randy

Thanks for the reply....I've seen this pdf file. I just don't have the measurements from the scope required to order the rings. Bushnell doesnt seem to have the specs on their website either.

Definately low or extra low, the ring heights are similar to other rings but the optiloc bases are very thick raising the scope very high. I am 6'1" and had a set of medium rings for a bushnell 4200 2.5x10 and found them way too high for me.

On some scopes with a large eyepiece, the low rings won't allow the scope to me mounted far enough forward. I have a Zeiss conquest with 4" of eye relief on my Sako and I had to go to Burris rings. The 3200 should be OK as it doens't have alot of eye relief, when yo buy them make sure the store will take them back if they are the wrong ones.

I usually don't question when someone wants to go better quality than needs to be but put your decision to use Optilock rings and bases in perspective. The rings cost $86...bases $78 (in stock but only currently available in Canada in stainless or blued...no matte yet available). A set of Leupold rings $39...bases $30 (also in stock and available in all three finishes).. I have never seen a Leupold Std ring/base set up move under any recoil or hard use (if properly installed). If you have extra money to spend on your outfit why not spend it on upgrading your optics. The 3200 series is an excellent value but for an extra hundred or so dollars you can upgrade considerably. Just my thoughts. Of the several hundred Tikka's we have installed scopes on the vast majority have had Leupold (or Burris) rings and bases installed. Phil.
