Which Pistol & Carbine combo?

I'm with you HeadDamage - Springfield XD40 and a Ruger PC4 carbine (except mine doesn't have the ghost rings, I put a Bushnell red dot up top instead). My secondary set up would be my CZ 75 and my M1 carbine.

Ruger Mini 14 in 223 and Colt 1911A1 in 45ACP

Hope I am on track here but my pick would be these two. The .223 is very easy to shoot well and has rifle velocities. The .223 ammo is light and easily obtained; only real limitation is the sights. Instead of scope it would have been great to see a Garand type sight on the Mini 14.

M-1 Carbine is great IF used at pistol ranges with max 100 yards altho at Austin Rifle Club was shot in NRA Matches at 200 yards. Lieut John George's book about Merrill's Mauraders put the M-1 Carbine in perspective. In the Pacific theatre he carried it by choice with a five round magazine so he would always have it around "when needed" as it was for 30 specific instances.

For "one ammo train" would pick the new Ruger Deerfield Carbine in 44 mag and one or more S&W Model 29's in 4"brl with lots of speedloaders. Have tried this already with older Ruger 44 Carbine but would upgrade to easier magazine loading of Deerfield. Original Ruger 44 Carbine requires jacketed bullets only.

Also the Mini 14 in Russian 30 round and 1911A1 45 could do it all. Why Ruger hasnt simply stuck a clip guide on either Mini 14 is a mystery to me. Mini 14 makes any M-14 owner's learning curve to good work very adaptable.

Yet another pick would be a Model 92 Browning or Marlin stainless lever action rifle in 44 Mag with either a Colt 1911A1 or S&W Model 29. Dont forget to put a Lyman peep or a leaf ladder sight on the rifle so it can be shot easily at 100 yards plus.

To conclude, I think that picking the rifle or carbine first and then adding the pistol is the way to go. The rifle can be used at any and all ranges; the pistol cannot. I can score on a fifty yard PPC target or a classic IPSC target at 50 metres but I dont regard it as being as easy as using a rifle or a shotgun with slugs at that range or even at 10 or 20 yards for that matter. Indeed that is why the M-1 Carbine was issued in 1941 as it was determined that US Army troops in rear areas armed only with a Colt 1911A1 were virtually defenceless if fiield postions were overrun. Thats why WWII say SIX million M-1 Carbines issued.

Two weeks ago I met a USMC Veteran who at age 88 recounted to me for about 30 mins as how he survived Guadacanal and Iwo Jima by toting a BAR around with all the magazines he could carry. Eighteen years ago another USMC Veteran recounted to me how at Iwo Jima he threw away all his equipment and filled all his pockets with 20 shot M-1 Carbine mags for his M-1 Carbine. It was successful. He was able to show up to visit his grandchildren in Northern Ontario in 1987. Thousands of other USMC Veterans were not as fortunate. Garands did not fare well at Iwo as the volcanic sand locked up the operating rod.

Opps..almost forgot! How about either a 1903 Springfield or a P-17 in 30'06 and a Colt 1911 in 45 ACP. Worked ok for Sgt York. The interchangeable ammo for both pistol and /carbine/rifle like a Win 73 in 44-40 and Colt SAA is good for logistics but you will be "stumped" if distances get out beyond
150 yards. It is relatively easy to tag a target at 300 or 400 yards with a iron sight Mini 14 .223 or Mini 30 from prone; try it with a 44 mag or 45 Colt sometime.

At the lower mainland tac shoots can you use the 10rd mags or do they limit you to 5rds to make if fair for the 5rd mag guns?

Yes, we stick to five rounds in sympathy for our handicapped bretheren ... :D

I'm considering using the Storm in combination with an XD or a Berreta M92 of some kind ... I'm still not that happy with DA pistols mind you, but carrying one set of mags for both guns is very appealing, especially if we begin to allow pistols as backup guns in some of our Tac matches at some point.

I have an XD in .40 and today just got my storm in .40. YAY! I'm going to the range tomorrow to play with both.

Using the same cartrige (but not the same mags):

m1 carbine and ruger blackhawk BN31 in .30 carbine

I have the Beretta Elite II and the Storm both in the .40

I love it. While the Elite is one of the best, the Storm is also my choice because of the design, the way it shoot and i found the weigh is in the back instead in the front so it's more easy to point and control. Still looking for a jam in the Storm yet and the Elite had 2-3 because of poor reload quality so both reliable.

If the Elite is to pricy, go with the Vertec. You may still find it for 700$

Man, I must be getting old or something. When I first saw the title, I thought of a .357 magnum revolver and a lever action rifle in the same calibre or a .44 magnum revolver and a lever actioned .44 mag as well. ;)

Buuuuuwaaahhhh! LMAO No offense, of course. Just struck me as funny!:)

Regards,

Going to use my H&K USC for Tac Rifle this year...trying to save the money for a USP Compact Tactical for Tac pistol. They don't share mags, but at least I only have to pack one caliber.

H/K all the way!:D
