Which Pistol do you prefer ??

The one that's still in production is the one I like best. Hell, some of the one's built for WW2 are the ones being issued for Afghanistan. Definitely one of the best pistols designs in history and the best 'fighting' 9mm ever. The Luger was great for it's time, and the P38, well... it's safer to carry.

good gawd...the comparison..oooo

of the three....ehh...I wouold carry a p38....I just like double action safety and instant bang

the big bullet holder on a hipower is certainly a plus too...how about a Hi38?

.... Easy answer, LUGER, BHP and P38 !....... Luger for it's pioneering design and machining. BHP for it's pure durability and magazine capacity. The P38 was a landmark battlefield pistol, double action, relatively cheap and functional...... Having owned two Luger's and shot them both a fair bit, maybe I'm slightly biased, but they sure "point well" and if the firing pin is kept clean, and the springs are in good shape, they work just fine, over-engineered, but intrinsically, beautiful ! ...... I have been shooting Lugers since about 1962 and still can't figure out why they are supposed to be so obsolete and awful.

Feed them straight Sten Gun loads, make sure the magazines fit properly, and oil the poor thing once every 6 months and you'll have no troubles. As far as breaking the thing is concerned, I think it's the only automatic of the period that you could crack some jerk upside the stahlhelm with the thing and not break the gun. And you can put a shoulderstock on them and really shoot.

My choices would be the Luger first, Browning second, P-38 last...... and remember, I own Lugers and a P-38. For a serious social encounter in my kitchen at 3 AM, reasoning with disadvantaged young offenders who are indulging in their hobby of home invasion, I would not feel at a disadvantage with any of these three...... but would still prefer my Webley Mark VI. It's got that h-u-g-e HOLE in the front end that tends to overawe.

As far as visual style I like the Luger, then BHP and a distant last the P38.

As far as shooting I have mainly shot the P38s (got three) and had excellent results.

I have not shot more than 100 rounds from my HP and that was a couple of years ago. I remember not quite liking it. It fits better in my left hand than my right. I don't like the narrow trigger. I will have to give it another try soon.

I bought a Luger seven years ago, shot it then, but have not been able to take possession yet since it's 12(6). I'm still waiting for a decision on my 12(6) hearing. Should be this month. I remember a heavy trigger but that's it.

I love them all but for shooting I still like my tuned pre-B CZ75 the best (use it for CDP).

I've got all 3 ;). For range use I'd choose the Luger. Its very comfortable, and just really neat to shoot, and you get lots of comments at the range. For any defensive work, the HP is the way to go. The P38 is a great gun and pretty ahead of its time, but the single stack mag and heel-located magazine release keep it from being a better carry gun than the HP.
