This is my first gun and I cant make my mind up between the two. Please help.

Also there both in the 650-700 range and its what I want to stay in.

You've picked them up, handled them, and formed an initial personal impression of fit and feel, right? (That is very important.)

Beyond that, either will serve the purpose.

The Glock is unencumbered by any magazine disconnector "safety" (which is, in my opinion, a critical selling point in favour of it). The M&P may be ordered without the disconnector - though most models in Canada seem to have it - and it also may be ordered with an excellent manual thumb safety (should you prefer the controls of a 1911).

Wait until after Shotmass, Glock is 99.99% sure to be releasing the new generation and at least one person who has handled one says it's a game changer. (I say that and I'm the M&P guy myself)

You can fairly easily remove the mag safety from an M&P. Both great choices. As they say, ideally you should try both. One may fit better, you may be fonder of one trigger system than the other.

M&P was my choice until I saw 2 guys buy em and have mags drop after every shot. Also when inserting the mags with a firm hand the slide lock fails and sends the slide into battery. I really like the M&P and the ergonomics are great, and I am sure not every one will have these issues, but it speaks to the quality of the product if you ask me. Glock is a tank, and there are very few issues that come with the purchase of a glock. Also more aftermarket parts are available for glock than any other pistol aside from the 1911. And they are cheaper. I chose the Glock for all the above reasons. But you will enjoy either one. Good Luck.

I think M&P is a better gun over all but for some reason lemon rate are quite hign. That said the QC is an issue. Glock on the other hand has more consistance at the quality contral. Parts are easy to find, incase your gun need some spare parts, you don't need to send the gun away and have it fit by yourself. if you don't know how to do, there are tons of Glock guys at your gunclub know how to detail strip the gun and put parts back in second. I bought a G17 base from what I've seen between M&P and Glock, not from what I've heard.

I'm fortunate not to have either of the problems mlehtovaara mentions with the M&P. The mag release is a very simple mechanism and if you experience a problem it should be easy to get a replacement piece and swap it out. Its made to be easily removed and reversible to allow left handed shooters to change the side it operates from. I've tried to duplicate the slide drop problem I've heard mentioned, but I can't get my pistol to do that either.

I vote Glock 22 'cause it works for me.

You need to determine what would work for you, however.... ;)

They both have their advantages and disadvantages.

If it's any "consolation" my M&P 9 has now gone over 6,000 rounds with absolutely zero issues of any kind. I have the spares, I'm just waiting for something to break :D After the first 1,000 rounds the trigger becomes a thing of beauty, smooth clean break and fast tight reset.

Thanks man, I basically went with this one since a friend bought one and loves his. Plus its my first gun so why not start a bit cheaper and work my way up.

But got to love the wife, she bought it for me as my xmas gift. lol

While I love my M&P 9MM and it has been excellent as to reliability and accuracy I would recomend a CZ 75 B or CZ 85 Combat if you intend to play IDPA or IPSC. I believe the guns are inherantly more accurate and the stell gun soaks up recoil. They are super reliable and can be had for about the same money.

LEo departments go polymer because the Departments can buy them for next to nothing. They also drive Ford Crown Vics but that isn't the car I would buy for the family.

Take Care

I've owned both. It's a toss up.
Either one is reliable and both have advantages/disadvantages. IMO, the M&P wins for comfort but the Glock is way easier to field strip. I've also found the M&P slightly more accurate but there are more "stuff" available for the Glock.
Shoot them both to decide for yourself. They're both excellent guns. If you can't choose on the range, just go to the store and Eeny, meeny, miny, moe.......

No problems with my M&P either. That being said, pick the one you like better and go shooting. Kind of like blonde or brunette...there's no wrong choice, just preference.:p

Mag Drop

I can't speak for the Glock since I've neither owned or fired one. As for the M&P, I believe the mag drop problem occurred with an earlier batch and the problem has long been addressed. It is not an issue I have ever experienced. I would, however, exercise caution if I were buying one in the used market, but then again, I have also heard that S&W was extremely good about rectifying the problem - after all they are warrantied for life. But since the purchase is already made, all of this is rather pointless isn't it. Enjoy your new toy. :)

Can't go wrong with either. Just a matter of preference and what feels better for you. I've had both the M&P 9 and the G17. No issues with the M&P 9 but I sold it because I prefered the G17.....YMMV.
