Which powder chucker?

Hello all, I am just getting into reloading and was wondering if there is preference out there to powder chuckers. I've heard the Lee is not very good, how about the Hornady, Lyman or Rcbs. Any info. will be appreciated.

I used a RCBS Uniflow for years with very good success. Recently upgraded to a Redding 3BR which meters flake and extruded powders much more accurately - I have not used the RCBS since and am really pleased with the 3BR.

There are two powder measure micrometers available for the 3BR (pistol and rifle). The pistol one handles lighter weight loads and has a smaller capacity (smaller barrel) which can also be good for small capacity rifle cartridge target loads (reduced velocity).

I use a Hornady that will throw a charge right on the money about 70% of the time. The other 30% are usually under by about .2 of a grain while the odd one will be .1 gr over. This isn't a big deal for me as I weigh every charge anyway.
I read an article in Precision Shooting a few years back where they tested a whole pile of powder measures from cheap LEE to Harrel. In the end the cheap LEE was almost as accurate as the more expensive powder measures.
 
I have been using the cheap Lee one for about 2 years now & am quite satisfied with it. I use mostly extruded powders & occasionally some of the charges are not perfect. It does much better with spherical powder like H335. I found this out when I started making hunting rounds for my .270 & was weighing every charge. When loading for my milsurps I usually weigh every 10th charge to make sure it is not over charging. They are always light loads so I am not worried if one is a little over.

I've been using the Lee since spring and found it to be very accurate, wish I would have bought one sooner. Depending on the powder used its within .1 grain 9 times out of 10 and works very well with Varget, Benchmark, W748, H322. For high volume varmint reloading I check every 10 throws and rarely have to adjust, just keep the powder the level up.
 
Well I think I might grab a Lee and since they are only 33 dollars with a stand, if it sucks, then I'm only out 33 bucks. And I plan on weighing every load anyway. Thanks for all the info!

I have the same experience, H335 metres better through the RCBS, powders like Varget or H4350 are thrown considerably MORE accurately by my LEE.

Cripes, everybody else wants at least half the price of the Lee for a simple stand plus the much higher price for the dispenser alone. The Lee works just fine. Like their stuff - when you take it apart you can see what they were thinking. Clever designing generally!
