Which rifle bought bone stock could do good in a competition

Dont burst my bubble, i need to buy another rifle in 7mm or 6mm... JP.

Sounds like you want to shoot F-Open ... a few shooters like to 'golf bag' their rifles and shoot different cartridges at different distances - lots of excuses (whoops - REASONS) to buy more rifles ... LOL.

I'll stick with F-TR. My action is a stock Remington, the barrel and stock are after market. Components are much more simple and easier to find - and now you're into the wind reading game that more deeply, being more 'ballistically challenged' than our F-O brethren.

I don't know anything about this topic but I'm curious for a stock rifle with no modifications how would a Remington 700 xcr in 300 wm, measure up?

Have my eyes on a Savage long range precision in 260 from one of the sponsor, i will give them a call on tuesday to talk and maybe ordered it, i'll start from there... JP.

My Icon P.H. 6.5 Creedmoor is very accurate but it is no target rifle, it is primary a hunting rifle and will shoot sub moa but i need something that i can bring down to .3 to .5 at long distance and i dont own any 260, so... JP.

And you expect to achieve this level of accuracy on consistent basis with a factory rifle? Lightning seldom strikes twice - at least in your case. Your expectations are high.

The Savage 6BR offering is probably as good as it'll get for a factory rifle. It's a crap shoot to begin with but at least you could start with a decent quality rifle with a cartridge that is known for great accuracy. Barrel life will be significantly better than the .260 Rem you're considering.

I dont believe in luck in shooting ( except for a mini-14 ), i think i is hard work to bring it to it's higher expectations... and succed but that just me saying that... JP.

Within the limitations of the rifle you are shooting, I agree. Having said that, you're likely to have a much harder and longer road to follow with a factory rifle, regardless of name brand, as opposed to a custom rifle that is purpose built. You should know this already.

I agree that a 1000.00 rifle could reach it's limitations faster than a more expensive one but not as a rule, both my TRG never gave me all the satisfaction i was expecting from them and god know, how much devellopement i did for those rifles, on the other hand, my savage BVSS in 308 was giving the same groups with no fuss, it will be fun giving it all the chance in the world of being a LR capable rifle and for the 260 caliber, the joy of the shooting sport... Cheers. JP.

Or maybe a 300 WM that i could reload with 208 Amax... JP.

Before you get too excited, you should check the DCRA and your provincial rifle association for rules governing rifles and their calibers.

F-Class has caliber limits, and some provincial associations have a no Magnum cartridge rule...........as well muzzle brakes/flash suppressors are not allowed.......

Look at Rule #11 in the DCRA regulations......

11.05 Rifles
(1) Rifles - General. The principles of Rule 12.21 apply to all types of rifle used in DCRA
fullbore competitions. In addition, no rifle shall be fitted with a muzzle brake, flash eliminator,
flash hider, tactical vent or similar device which may cause muzzle blast to stir up dust or to be
deflected towards nearby competitors. If such a device forms a permanent part of the rifle, its
vents shall be covered in a way that does not permit muzzle

11.05 (5) 'F' Class Competition Rifles
(a) .F Class “Open” (O) Rifles
(i) Any rifle of up to 8mm calibre may be used (see also Rule 11.21), but 'rail
guns' and similar devices which provide positive mechanical method(s) for
returning to the precise point of aim for the prior shot are not permitted (see
also Rule 11.15(2)). The rifle may, incorporate an integral or attached
mechanism for raising and lowering its butt. See also Rule 11.15(2)(d). Rule
11.05(1) also applies. NB: This maximum calibre limit of 8mm applies only
to Connaught Range and Primary Training Centre; calibre limits for events
held at other venues may differ, so must be determined and promulgated in
advance by the organizers of those events.

Now that being said, why not compete with your Nemesis ????? You constantly praise this rifle and how it shoots, so what is the need for a "competition rifle" ????? From your posts about the Nemesis you should have no problem winning every match you enter........... ;)

.260 does very well in some tactical matches. I believe there were several .260s shooting the NSCC precision matches. Out here .260 would put you into open class in both our tactical rifle matches and in F open.

I suspect that Caramel wishes to shoot past 800 yds in competition. I believe the .308 will lag behind other competition calibers with any wind and make wind doping more difficult than say a 6mmish caliber.

But, maybe he will clarify.

The rifles are there to be used but in the 308 department, the Nem. is way in front of the TRG as far i am concern up to 800 metres, and i dont want to start anything here, having shoot both the Nemesis is the king, now all those pro shooters are swearing by the 6mm, 6.5, 260, 7mm, i want to get a good factory target rifle of one of these caliber, to go furter than 800 metres as it had been said by Longshot... JP.

If the TRG is a big disappointment for you perhaps I can take one off your hands for the right price. Not interested in paying big bucks for something you consider a lemon but I am interested if you're selling.

PM me if you are.
