Which Rifle for yote hunting

Hi

I sure would pick the Savage / Stevens twist rate over the Remington in .223. The > 65 grain bullets are something you will want to use if you are trying for 300-400 yard shots.

I ordered the rem700 in .223, couldnt pass up that deal. 300 yards plus will be a rare shot for me. ordered a bushnell banner 4-12X40mm scope too.

why would remington use a 1:12 twist then? what are the benefits of it?

Hi

The 1:12 twist was the original "mil spec" barrel in .223 (or 5.56mm). It will marginally stabilize the 55 grain lead bullet. Anything heavier (actually longer) than 55 grain will be unstable out of the original barrel. As the world has moved to heavier (longer) bullets they have had to go to faster twists to stabilize them.

The advantage of a slow twist is that it will not spin up (rpm's) the light bullets to to point that they fly apart.
