Which rifle in 30-06?

Thank you, everyone, for the info.

Honestly, id look for something used like a ruger m77, win m70, old bsa cf2, parker hale....I dunno. I have savage axis2 xp, but Its not the first thing I reach for.

Edit, didn't see you want something for a chassis. Savage would probably be good for that.

I hadn't considered the Ruger or Win, not much in the price range I was looking at, but I hadn't explored the used market much either.

Not the Mossberg.

I have heard opinions that their QC isn't amazing, but also that they have fixed the problems. What is the reason you advise against it?

The ruger American really fits the bill, since you didn't list any budget.

Sorry, should have mentioned that. It's +/- $800 Canuckistanian Kopecks. I feel as though the Ruger can be had within that range when on sale.

I would look for a used Remington 700, Ruger 77, or Winchester 70

Yet another suggestion in this direction. I will definitely look into these.

I see tikka t3 's come up on ####### in the $800 price range sometimes. I think you would be happy with the quality and accuracy. Good choice on the '06, but dont turn your nose up to its little sister the 270 win

Reading my mind :D When Junior's YPAL comes in, his rifle will be a 270.

Of those two options i would take the savage every time. But a good used 700 or m70 will be better made. Not necessarily more accurate but better made.

Will look into the 700s and m70s. Thank you.

I see a stainless Savage on the EE right now for $700 with a couple of options, I packaged too many Mossberg rifles up for warranty when I worked for a wholesaler many years ago, I also had a couple of bad experiences with Savage so I am not ready to buy another, I also received exceptional service from Savage and there are many on this site that really like them. Savage at your price point may be your best bet to mount in a chassis. You mentioned Husqvarna 1900 as an option and they are available for around what you are looking to spend, the 1900 is one of my favourite rifles and I have several. You can't go wrong with a 30 06, lots of choices, Intersurplus has 31 pages of 30 06 rifles for sale.

Tikka t3x are going for $1000 and under right now, better than all the above junk mentioned! Lol

Well, except for the M70 CRF, but your not getting that for cheap

A site sponsor has a steal on a new old stock CZ 557 Eclipse. $720 ! Nothing fancy, but a good solid, dependable and accurate rifle.
Go to EE and search for "CZ 557". I have three of them and wouldn't part with any.

No question for me; an older Husqvarna Commercial 98 Mauser. Can't beat the quality and the push feed... And the price.

AB3006,
It seems that the price of the rifle is the decisive factor in your choice of brand and that's Ok. This was mentioned before, You can get a much better rifle for your price if you get a new Howa or a Weatherby.

I'm not against used equipment as such. Lord knows I buy most of my family's sports and hobby equipment used.

But given my inexperience, I would need to buy physically, or from a reputable dealer with a guarantee and return policy.

If you want the classic cartridge then put in the best of all
Sako AV ... no doubt
and never look back
