Which rifle should I get..?

6.5x55 Swede. :)

Nice post. It's not a 7x57 but in a pinch it'll do. ;)

6.5x55 yuch :p

and .270 YUCH :p sort of a middle caliber

now 25-06 is a good little round

and I like the savage rifles, good product and reasonable priced, I do have a Savage and a Tikka, the Tikka is a nicer rifle but the Savage is every bit as accurate.

Well, gentlemen, after careful deliberation (more like thinking about for 10 minutes!) ;) I've taken up your advice and I'm gonna get the gun from madtrapper. 500 bucks is just too good of a deal to pass up, the money I save can go into a better scope or more ammo, either way it's win-win. :D Now all I need is good glass and I'm good to go. Suh-weet, can't wait to take this baby to the range! Thanks for all your comments guys, you've been very helpful!

Remember to post pictures of your new toy.

Will do.

Now all I need is a nice scope to go with it. Can't decide between Bushnell 3200 or Leupold VX-II...

edit: What's a good online store for scopes? Canada/US-based, doesn't matter (I can just go to the states and pick it up). Has anyone tried Scopesnmore.com before? The prices seem reasonable.

You can't buy scopes legally from the States without ALL the proper paperwork. You're better off checking CGN's EE forum.

Here are some:

Ahh.. I should have known... I read about something like that but I wasn't 100% sure. Guess that's not a very convenient choice then.

The 3200 priced here looks okay. I wonder how they compare to the VX-II's. Anyone have personal experience with both that could share some light?

I know a lot of people like the higher end Bushnells and they all have a lifetime warranty on them. Even my Sportview lasted over 10 years before it s**t its guts, and a 3-9 Rangemaster (I think that's what it's called has the BDC) is the only one my Dad's ever had on his .303. More people say bad things about Bushnell (Trashnell).
Leupold also have a lifetime warranty, but the service center is here in Alberta, just a short drive to Okotoks. I'm not sure where Bushnells is. I replaced my Bushnell with a VX-1 and I like it very much.
If it were me buying it, I'd go for a similarly priced Leupold over the Bushnell. Good luck with your purchase!

Actually the T3 comes chambered in that round.

but yeah.

Gross.
Nine, you can wash your dirty mouth out, you black rifle junky! :p
The 6.5x55 is an excellent round, particularly in the modern T3 action.
You can load it right up and accuracy is brilliant.
The T3 is also out of the box accurate.
A friend bought a T3 in 223 recently and it shot a 3/8th" 3 shot group out of the box.
My best mate uses a 6.5x55 for all his hunting and with 100gr Nosler BTs it does very unkind things to hares and rabbits.
Bushnells are also a good way to go, being the Elite series.
As far as buying scopes from the USA, if you're happy to buy through Ebay and then you can skip a lot of extra hassles.
My mates do the same here in Oz.

Excellent choice and a bargain price;). I have a VXIII, VXII, Burris FF2, and Elite 3200. All are good scopes and good glass. The 3200 for around $220- $250 is a good buy, and for $50 more you can get a VX1 3-9 or 2-7. If you're going to be coyote hunting at all I'd go with a 3-9.

The VXII are a great scope as well, but will run you $400 - $450 new, and the warranty is second to none. I don't think you'll go wrong with any of them, its just up to you how much $$ you want to spend.

Post some pics when you get it.;)

I have heard that the VX-II is a good scope, but saving $200 by going with a Bushnell seems more practical. I don't think a beginner like me would notice the difference between the quality anyway (aside from the warranty). More ammo $$ FTW :D

I'm not familiar at all with scope specs; is 3-9 suitable for my needs, i.e. deer and the occasional varmint hunt?
