Which Savage?

I want to get a hunting rifle eventually, and I want some opinions.
It will be for hunting big game, so it won't need to be target quality, and about the max range I would be shooting is 300yards.
My number 1 choice is a Savage Euro Classic in 308-opinions?
I also like the looks of the Savage Weather Warrior and most other savages. I want an affordable rifle that will last a life time or two in .308. Of course I will always look at other models, but savage seems to be right.
I know all that really matters is how it feels for ME but if people have experience with these rifles I would very much appreciate it.

You probably won't go wrong with any model you choose. I have the 111 w/Accutrigger and Accustock and it shoots fantastic. I also have the Edge and for an economy gun it too shoots real well.

good man goes right for creme da creme. (im not french so if it is wrong oh well;) ) ya i own two savage now and yes they are very nice and shoot very well. very easy to change pipes just incase you deciced you love shooting and wear out the 308.

Savage is an excellent choice. I would go for the 14 or 114 Classic or American Classic in 270 or 7mm-08.

Excellent choice. I have savages in 223, 243, 300 WM, 300 WSM, 300 RUM, 22 and 17 hmr. I love them all. Had a 22-250 which i am actively trying to buy back.

Anything savage will shoot well out of the box....buy it and take it hunting.

I just bought a stevens 200 in 308 and stuck a rifle basix trigger in it, and bedded the action, stiffened up the front of the stock also for my kids...after seeing how that thing shoots I am questioning my sanity for the high dollars I tend to spent on other brands.

Ok, I think I'll go savage, but I've heard alot of good reports for their cheaper models like the Axis and Stevens-is it really worth it to go for double the price like with a Classic? I know for certain things it is, other things its not.

If I had the spare cash right now I'd order the Euro Classic in 308. The one I handled at the local shop felt nice and it had really nice wood, only issue was it was in 243.

The bolt lift on the edge/axis somehow felt smoother than most savages to me - light little gun - but I'm a big dang gorilla so recoil doesn't bother me much - I think I'll try one for kicks. (pun intended)

Stevens rifles, purely for hunting I think are a great value - but the 300 win mag I shot - sure had a punch to it. They're just so dang LIGHT! Short action/small caliber - they're "minute of critter" out to 300 easily. And they leave lots of money in the bank account to afford ammo and tags. I like both the savage and stevens line - I'll get back to you on what I think of edge/axis though. Until I shoot one I am zippin my lips.

i working on octogon stainless nuts so anywere you can find a big adjustable so cloth or leather and a bench top vice, your good to go and change pipes for every day of the week to find out which barrel/caliber is the most lucky. :) get the savage in anything and you wont regert it.

something about wood i would rather bring it into camp oppose to plastic so why do i have plastic on my savage?

If you have your heart set on a .308, get a short action bolt. If you are going with a short case you might as well have the lighter weight and shorter action as well. If you run a .308 in a long action with a blocked up magazine, in my opinion, you might as well run a long cartridge as well.

I bought a Savage model 10 Anniversary model in 300 savage 2 years ago. The 300 is not too far off a .308. and is plenty enough caliber for deer. It has the accutrigger and I put a small 2x7 leopold vari 11c on top. It shoots very well on the range but I have yet to take it out hunting. It just looks too pretty.
