Hi, I am new to the site but it seems great so far.
I just purchased a 300 WSM Tikka T3 Hunter Left handed...not that that matters.
I am looking to put a good scope on it and would love to here any ideas and recommendations. Please feel free to include the aprox. price range of your recommendation as well as where is a good place to purchase.

I will use it primarily for moose hunting.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Morg

Tikka rings and bases are around $200 - I have no experience with them.

Leupold rings and bases are around $75.00 and I have them on my T3.

I believe another company, possibly millet, has rings that go right onto the Tikka dovetail. Someone will pipe up that knows about them.

Me, I like the Leupolds. Reasonably priced and well made.

Scope choice would for me depend on budget and distance. I'm not experienced with moose hunting so I'm not sure what to recommend. It probably depends a lot on where you are going hunting. Some areas you are closer than others and that would favor a low magnification.

They are crap, I just broke one on my T3 in 338. Not only did it put a quick stop to my load development that day but it put a big gouge and dent in the bottom of my $250 Fullfied II. I'll post pics later.

I just ordered silver Talley Rings from talleyscoperings.com from the states. They cost $58.90 US delivered to my door. Ordered Aug 26th, arrived today. They combine the base and ring into one unit. Very light and strong apparently.

Do a search under hunting and sporting arms. There is a long thread about Tikka rings there.

Just to be clear, it was the Millets that broke on you? Mine's only a 308, and the steel Leupolds have held up well. I'm very happy with my Tikka rifle. Shoots everything accurately.

Yes, they were the ones that clamp to the dovetail. They broke right at the bottom of the ring. I'll go take that pic right now.

If I am not mistaken, you can get a one-piece scope rail for the T3, and that would allow you to use TPS rings, which are the cat's a$$ IMHO.
[I think Allen Gun Works maybe has the rails, made by EGW?]

Then it would start to look like my T3 in .300WM. ;) Just picture your wood stocked rifle in place of mine.......
This is my moose / big game rifle.
I put a Zeiss Conquest 3.5x10x50 Rapid Z reticle scope on it.

I have a older Tikka m-595 WhiteTail that came with Optiloc rings and basses they are by far the best rings I've owned. Rings have inserts so you'll never squash or mark the scope tube, 4 screws per ring. I'm sure other types will work fine that fit Tikkas. Scope suggestions Elite 4200 2.5-10x40 awsome glass you can shoot long after sunset, I have a few and they are worth every cent I paid for them $450.00 approx. I don't think you can match that quality for the money with other brands IMO.

I just butchered some Millet rings to, they are crap. I shouldve bought something better, I ordered some Burris stuff.

My Tikka T3 Lite (in .223) had a flat top and was tapped for bases. If yours is the same you can buy weaver bases and use any ring that fits on the weaver base.

TPS are great rings at a reasonable price.

II decided on the optilock. The only negative comment I can find is "they are more expensive" not over priced just more expensive. After investing what I did in my rifle and scope it seemed silly to worry about a few dollars when mating the two. I'm confident that I now have a great package. And although I purchased each piece from a different supplier I think I got it for a steal. All total including taxes and shipping my T3 hunter 300wsm, vari x ||| 3.5x10.5x50mm with optilock bases and rings is $1400 Canadian. I think that's not bad.
Thanks to everyone for the help and advice. I'm glad I became a member
