Which scope would work best for my Marlin 336 chambered in 30/30?

VX-II 1-4x20 or VX-II 2-7x33

I will be firing on targets between 50 and 200 meters away. I realize some people don't approve of putting a scope on a levergun. My eyesight isn't the greatest so I'll need a scope to aid in proper shot placement.

I'm not sure how a scope without an objective bell would look on a levergun, any pics out there?
 
i like the looks of the 1x4 on a lever gun. fits well looks good and enough magnification to hit anyhting within the range of a 30 30. as for eyesite problem i scope my 30 30 and 444 marlins for the same reason. i like to hit what i shoot at.
 
I put a Burris 3-9X40 on mine. It seems like a bit much of a scope, but my eyes are getting a bit old too. I gotta go with chappy on this one.

Hey Steeleco with reguards to your fixed 4 power, do you ever wish that you were able to turn the power down a bit for certain situations?
 
i don't know about steelco turning down the power but he could dial down the shine a level or two!! might blind me one sunney day chasing bears

Aside from the smart ASS^^^ (we'll talk Mr!!!)

The whole package is new and only seen the bush one trip, the idea for a 2x7 scope was mainly for range work and load testing. All my other 3x9s are set at 4 and never turned lower!!
 
To me a lever action looks weird with a big scope like a 3x9.

f you have to scope it, try to keep the scope as small as possible like a 1x4 or 1.5x5 with straight tube objective end. The straight tube will allow you to have the scope lower to the bore which will work better for the low combs generally found on lever action rifles.

I oogled one of those 1-4 models and I was AMAZED. 1X is sharp. I'm considering putting a bell & carlson sporter stock and a VX-II 1-4x20mm on my 20" Savage. It would cut out lugging 2 guns to camp. (But I'd probably still bring the 336. :D)
