Hello,

Looking at two scopes for production class precision rimfire. Rifle is $1100USD MSRP so that leaves $550US MSRP for an optic. Unfortunately, many optics have ridiculously high MSRP relative to their actual selling price :(

Looking at these two options;

DISCOVERY OPTICS ED-PRS GEN2 5-25X56SFIR FFP for $350USD MSRP, about $500CAD purchase price.
ARKEN SH-4J 6-24X50 FFP for $525USD MSRP, about $500CAD purchase price.

I have heard more about Arken and there are many places that sell them. The Discovery Optics are bought directly from China I believe. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on either of these two optics, or another recommendation?

Thanks

Hi,

I had a look at Athlon but I wasn't able to find an appropriate model that fits under the USD MSRP. I want a model with a mag of 5-25 or 6-24, zero stop and FFP.

I would definitely prefer to purchase a better optic used on the EE but the USD MSRP really limits what is available.

An XTR2 would be great but is way over the MSRP I can work in.

Thanks for all the replies,
Chris

The Athlon Argos 8-34x56 Gen3 is FFP and MSRP is $499. I have a couple, one on my CZ-VMTR and the other on my Savage B-22-FV. The 'eye box' is tight and small, may not be what you want But 'Precision' is there.

I have the arken sjh4 you mention and was using it on a 223. Was working out great out to 1000m.

I do find the center dot to be a little large for in closer precision shooting, so that coupled with the fact you are using it for 22 might be the only real issue with it, so really not much of an issue. Still totally usable though, you just have to be aware of it and work with it.

Yes the higher $$ are better for that, but you don't have much to work with.

I think I’ve purchased 5 or 6 Arkens in the past 2 years for an assortment of my rimfires both .22LR and .17 varieties. I’m fussy about precision and reliability and like these scopes much better than the new generation of Bushnells. The model you are considering is excellent, the Arken that’s 5-
25x with a 34mm tube is a much bigger scope but it sits on a my ‘bigger’ Vudoo.
Good luck.

Should also mention to watch out that the parallax adjustment comes in short enough to cover those short-range .22 shots matches sometimes include. I've had to engage as close as 20 yards.

Im pretty sure youve purchased 5or6 of a great many things in the last two years!! Remember the box full of Leupolds beside your chair that youd forgot about haha. Oh well they were just the HD VX5s.

I run a discovery HD PRS Gen 2 5-25 on my cz457. Works for me I like it. Also ran a Bushnell match pro on it also a great scope it’s now on my 30-06.

And on my 10/22 I run a vortex Diamondback tactical 4-16x44. It’s a good option as well but not as nice overall as the Bushnell or Discovery.
