Hey guys,
I am considering 2 scopes for my 30-378 Weatherby. It will be used in the field hunting and at the range. For long distance stuff either way.

Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20x50mm ER/T M1 FFP

or

Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP

Which would you choose and why? Or would you go with something totally different?

Leupoold no question.

They are an extremely high quality scope, great warranty and they are durable.

BUT I tend to prefer a scope that goes lower than 6X for hunting. I rarely use mine above 3X. I believe they make one in the range of 4-14X... close-in off hand shots of opportunity with a high power scope are difficult to make.

Option B is to simply use a venerable 3-9 Bushnell 3200 on Quick-release mounts for hunting, and keep the very high quality glass for the range... Pretty hard to screw-up making a 3-9X scope, and Bushnell's are weather resistant and tough. Good rings like Leupold QRW's make it possible to remove and replace a scope and be exactly where you were on paper.

You did notice that he's shooting a 30-378 right? Probably not afraid to spend money, though the scope will likely be more accurate than the rifle.

Yes I did notice.. doesn't change the fact that those 2 scopes are in completely different price classes. Better to compare the Leupold with a Vortex Razor (not the Viper), Nightforce, etc

If you can afford the MK4 I'd say go for it.

If you can only have 1 scope to do it all, a bushnell elite 6500at 2.5-16x will work on paper. I can't comment on actual quality, I've never had the chance to play with one.
