Which Scope Mounts Best For On The M-305?

Ok, I've been reading about the variety of scope mounts out there for the M-14s, and reading about some of the differences in manufactoring...so can anyone out there offer some practical experience with theirs, like which ones aren't so good? How are the Springfield Armory ones?

Heard the Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40 does well...However, you are stuck on 10 power..

I'm getting a Leupold Mark4 2.5-8x36 or 3-9x36 Illum for my M14S just because I get a good deal on those..

Another alternative would be the Leupold Knock-off clones for about 180$ through 1337Tactical.

The ones at Marstar fit really nicely. In a budget, that is. I tried both and only lost money, time, and ammo. Avoid them at all costs!

I have a Springfield Gen 1 and it works really well for me.

The 'cheapest' usable mount IMHO is the SA Gen 3, fitted properly with some blue loctite......it works and is stable, maybe a little high though.

Anything less is just wasting your time, money and ammo.

Did you read this sticky.

Your best choice is an Arms #18 or any Brookfield type mount (Smith Ent, Sadlak, Unertl)

You aren't likely to get more practical experience than GG&FB has to offer on this subject. Save until you can get the real deal, you'll just end up replacing anything cheaper you waste money on anyway.

I have tried most of the mounts out there...................take my advice, buy a Smith Enterprise or other Brookfield Precision style mount.

But once, buy quality.......;)

SKBY.

Avoid all the cheap mounts. Like Skullboy, I tried all the cheapies made in 20 plus years. All of them ended up on the GunShow tables (with warnings of my grief).

After all these years, the most reliable mount (could not afford a Smith or Brookfield) I could afford was the ARMS # 18.

Save your money, work some extra shifts.... the ARMS # 18 will save you bottles of Aspirins.

Just MHO

If you can live with the Weaver rail set-up, the rest of the mount is Smith - haven't tried one yet but the guys on the US boards are thrilled with them.

I saw this mount on their site, is it any good?

Jeff

When I enquired with our resident M14/305 Guru (Hungry) he gave a thumbs up on this mount. Hungry - please correct me if I'm wrong.

Some may not want the Weaver mounting setup. I don't know of any disadvantages of the Weaver mounting - anyone?

Yes, on the M14 Forum in the U.S. many speak highly of the $105 Smith Enterprise mount. It is a good mount.

Does anyone know where I can find an ARMS 18 mount. I just bought a leupold mark IV 3-9x40 illuminated, but I need an ARMS 18. Airborn, you wanna sell me a mount??? please please please :)

So I took the advice of the CGN M305 gurus, and I bought a M305.

Then I ignored the advice of the gurus, and I bought a Marstar "Tactical" mount, which despite all the loctite in the world would not stay tight. This mount now sits, as a monument to my folly on top of my gun cabinet.

So I then took the advice of the gurus, and bought an ARMS 18 from Wolverine ( $265 all included). It's perfect.

Listen to the gurus

Woverine supports this site and has great prices with fantastic (fast!) service. Highly recommended. :)

they have them in stock? if so, I will be ordering one on monday, thanks again guys, I didn 't know they had any

The ARMS mount is a rarety around these parts T_M1...If I had a few in stock I could hook you up but I don't even have one for myself :)

Smith ships to Canada now too, but found them very $$$..Wolverine should have some in stock & if they do PM me for more info on the price & availability since I may order one myself If I don't get one from the US...I mean, I would rather deal with a dealer from this board first.

Talking coinsidence, as we speak, the owner of #2 of 10 P&D Socom is right here & we are talking M14's..

After the holidays, when we all get our Norc's scoped & mounted...We should meet at CHAS for a shoot.

When I decide to upgrade my scope mount, I am going with a Smith Enterprise scope mount. Which is the standard military USGI mount. Better then ARMS IMHO.

if i had a nickel for every time I didnt listen tot he m14 gurus....

I'd be on my way to a pack of gum.

Then I smartened the #### up.

I have two, one on my socom and one on an orginal M-14, they are both different. Got them from valleygunsmithing.com, they both work great and were very reasonably priced.
