Perhaps if the budget is limited, one could consider a nice fixed rather than variable scope. I find that although all of my scopes are variable they have all been set at 4X and rarely move from there. Variables are more expensive and heavier, so trading the adjustability for higher quality may give you a better scope that is just as usable with a 30-06.

Go with a Leupold FX-III 6x42mm with the German #4 reticle!

I wish but I don't have a grand to spend on a scope.

I am in talks with a store in the US for getting a Leupold VX-II 3-9x40.

I really like the lr reticle

used luep 4x are often avalable for about $200 on the ee. awsome scopes with 33mm objective and weigh in around 10 ozs. great hunting scopes and have the lifetime waurenty. i like both the 4x and 6x fixed scopes.303 carbine had one listed last week i believe.

I have three 3x9 Leupolds and two 3x9/3200s.

I like them all, but think the 2x7 Leupold is a better choice for all around hunting. It offers a lower power setting and lighter weight. I have one of them as well :D

I can get a new Leupold vx-II for about $310 Canadian with full warranty.

I will make sure that he can legally do it before I send money and if I pay with credit card, I should be ok shouldn't I?

Also don't waste my money and go with a 4200? It's around $500 and I am working something out to get a vx-II for $300 canadian.

This may be a bit late, but...

Last weekend I was looking at the Leupold scopes and asked what the difference was between the VXI and the Rifleman models. This is what I was told.

"Nothing, except packaging."

The Rifleman models were originally manufactured for Walmart. Leupold took the VXI model, made the decals and such more plain, and called it the Rifleman. Walmart did not sell enough of them, so Leupold decided to make the Rifleman available for general distribution.

The Rifleman has the exact same lifetime warranty as all their products as well. They are also cheaper than the VXI.

I don't know about the other scopes, it seems that some of the other postings have some great info for you. I just thought that I would let everyone know what was told to me.

Good Luck in find something that you will be happy with.

Thanks for letting me know about that. I never knew that. Very weird if that is indeed the case with the rifleman.

I do want to buy a decent scope but I am on a budget so I am trying to buy from the states. Hopefully it goes through as I am still working on it

Check with Elwood Epps for a good used one. I have an elite 5-15 x 50 on my weatherby, and I love it. I pulled the 3-9 x 50 leupold target off of it and put it on my 22. I also sold 3 3-9 vari x's to buddies. I find that the elites are a much brighter sight picture. A M 8 fixed 6 will do an excellent job for you too, if it has to be a leupold. I'm going up to see my bud at the sporting goods store and pick up another 2 elites for my 45 70 and my other 270 weatherby magnum. BTW, the elite handled the recoil of a 375 just fine, and there is lots of eye relief there.

I have just forked out the cash for a Leupold VX-III 3.5-14 and I am happy with everything except I feel it has a narow field of view. If your going to buy one shop e-bay but pay a little extra and get someone with 100% posative feedback. If you don't e-bay or know someone who does stay away the risk is to high to get ripped off, I saved 300$ off what I could get it for from wholesale or russels. PS My buddy has been very happy with Burris fulfield 3-9 and their cheap.

Well I have been thinking. I have never hunted before and when I do watch hunting dvd's, it still doesn't go down easy to see a person kill an animal so instead of me buying a leupold, I think I am just going to go with a Elite 3200 or something decent but not too good. I want to order it from the US but people are saying it's illegal and bad to do and it's risky so I am just gonna go to Bass Pro or Lebarons and pic one up. After I have been hunting a few times and can see that a $600 scope is what I need, then I will get one for my main gun and keep the 3200 for some other gun I have.

Thanks guys

Thanks
