Which scope?

Looking at putting a new scope on my M305. I was wondering two things #1 What are you using? #2 What do you recommend?
I am using an ARMS#18 mount on a stock M305 except for a cheek rest and forward hand grip. Currently plan to use the rifle as a deer/plink gun at the range just to keep the skills up.
 
I would recommend a Leupold Mark 4 MR/T 2.5-8. I don't have it on a M305, but I love it on my Swiss Arms. It comes with BDC turrets for .223 and .308, and is quite well suited to both long range target shooting and hunting.
 
Cant beat Redfields for the good quality , lifetime warranty and low price.They are made by leupold now.
I have used bushnell 3200 3x9 , redfield 4-12 , burris fullfield II and bushnell 3200 10x tactical on 2 of my m-14,s

I still use the Bushnell Tactical 10x due to the target turrets as I just use that m-14 on the range..and the other one I went to a ultimak front rail and a Bushnell trs-25 red dot.

The Redfield has the best clarity.
 
I rock a Trijicon Accupoint 3-9. love it. But, they can be on the pricy side. Bought mine on sale so thats what I tell myself to justify it... I would have bought a Leupold VX2 with CDS turrets as my second choice.
 
I'm running a bushnell elite 4200 2.5-10×40 on a casm mount. Being able to "dial" the scope back to 2.5× is great for closer work, but being able to go past 10× magnification would be nice for long range work. If I get another scope for it I would love to try something with 15× or more magnification.
 
If I could get one it would be a Nightforce 2.5-10×32 NXS compact with a MOAR reticle.

WTF, who's going to put a $1500 scope on a $400 gun when you can get a very good scope for $300 or less that is only 5% inferior.

Cant beat Redfields for the good quality , lifetime warranty and low price

This. Check out the Redfield Revolution 3-9x40. Great deal.
 
Decide how much money you want to spend. Drifter Dave has a point too. The M305 isn't a target rifle or a sniper's rifle. Anything with a magnification greater than 8X or 9X is too much. You lose close in sighting and the field of view is too small.

Where do you get those numbers?

As someone who uses both $1500 scopes and $300 scopes, I can say that a $1500 scope (Leupold or NF in this case) is without a doubt vastly superior to any $300 scope on the market, whether it's optical clarity, durability, tracking, etc...

This isn't to say that the $300 scope won't work...

It should also be noted that guys pump hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in to their Norc M14's, via match barrels, USGI bolts/sights, having triggers/gas systems tuned/worked on, dropping them in fancy stocks, bedding, etc.
 
LOL, that is what I would say, personally I would stay away from cheap brands as they can't handle the recoil of .308. However, I don't think putting a $1500 scope on a $400 gun is the right move either. 3 suggestions, all based on my personal experience with my NORC m14:
1) Leupold vx1 3-9x40 , $270
2) Redfield revolution 2-7x33 $250
3) vortex diamondback 3-9x40 $230

there will be better scopes/priced scopes out there, but $300 is my max for a $400 gun. If it is the Springfield m1a, I will put the nightforce scope on.
