Which semi auto rifle for plinking would you chose?

I want to get a semi auto rifle to use up at our cabin for plinking and target shooting. I want something that is able to be customized with "tacticool" equipment not because I really need it, but more because I want to. I currently have Ruger 10/22 and shotgun, so this gun will round out my collection for now.

My question is what rifle would be best? I keep flipping back and forth between a CZ 858 (if they dont restrict it) or a Ruger mini 14/30. Is there anything else that I should be looking at?

What do you guys think would be my best option and why?

Thanks in advance, Chuck.

The Israelis have some cool kit available for the CZ 858. Tons of aftermarket tacticool stuff for the Ruger also. Kind of a toss up. Though, as outwest1213 posted, you could easily pick up a SKS for that price and dress it up plus get ammo for the price of either rifle. Magwedge has that new rail for the SKS, though 140$, it looks to hold zero and has almost 12 inches of rail to use in whatever optics you want.

Thanks guys for the replies.

I was thinking of an SKS originally, but don't like any of the stock options available for it so far. Perhaps something better will come along for the SKS? I do like the accessories available for the CZ and Ruger, thats why I am kind of leaning in that direction.

I have seen pics of the new Archangel stock for the SKS, but I don't really care for it's looks or the fact it doesnt have a top picatinny rail. Thanks for the info though.

cz all day long. Thats on my list, but I'm waiting for the Canadian edition to restock... I wish they would make one with a nice wood stock without the ####ing maple leaf

I know this may be a bit more expensive than a CZ, and significantly more than an SKS.... but it sounds like you would really like an XCR...

Damn, thats nice!

I did take a look at one out at Wanstalls but like you said, just a little out of my price range.
