Which one, CIL model 621, 607, or the 67 model? It's been a while, not sure if I have the models correct. I hunted with one during my early years in the field with my pappy.
Did you know that CIL didn't make their own shotguns? They contracted out. Savage made some guns for them.
I forget which I owned. I think it was the 607. Had a 3" chamber.
I'm not impressed with the china makes. Much rather an older proven gun to play with as a project.
Offhand, I'd say 95% or higher of my shotguns are older than 1960. Probably 80% of them are older than 1920. I shoot about 80% of them. There's only 2 I'd be leery to shoot and I'd even consider those if test fired remotely first. The other non-shooters I'm keeping in pristine condition, for now.
I have a WW1 Winchester 1897 Trench gun w/1917 bayonet (I know, lucky bastard), so poorly made chinese copies don't generate much interest.
Just my obviously biased opinion, but if you're looking for something to bash around and still get your money back later, go to GunNutz's sponsor Trade Ex Canada and get a decent gun, cheap. If you're more of a military and/or "guns that won the west" kinda guy, how can you pass on a real 1897 and pay that much for a copy?
