My step-son just moved to the US. He had quite a few tactical type weapons which he tried to sell before moving. The rest he left for me to sell. He transferred his restricted to me. I am not up on this type of handgun but am thinking of buying one from him mostly for plinking or bullseye type of shooting and don't know which one would serve me best. They are an IWI Baby Eagle, 2 Springfield XD-40 tacticals, Beretta 90-2 , Ruger SD-40 and a Beretta CX-4 all in 40 S&W All are like new condition. I will pay him for the the one I keep and cosign the rest along with his non-restricted. Do any of you knowledgeable shooters have any advice as to which would be the best value for me.

Have you had a chance to try them out side by side? I say keep the one that you like shooting the best. That's "value" for me.

If you need help deciding beyond that, I'd say ditch the CX4 and the SD40, and make your choice from the others. These two don't have the level of popularity and therefore support that the others do. It can be hard to find holsters and magazines and replacement / spare parts for less popular pistols.

Thanks for the reply.
No have not had a chance. I just got them and my range is still snowed in. I'll pick up some ammo in the city to-day and give them a try I kind of like the feel and trigger of the sd-40. I'm probably not interested in a holster and all the guns have a spare mag as well as some other accessories.

For my two cents worth , I have a Springfield XD-40 tactical 40 cal. , it is a very robust firearm and I have never had a problem with mine . As far as not being able to find parts , I am not sure as i have never had any breakage with mine.......but Springfield is a well known company with a long history in the firearms industry . Holsters and mags are are not difficult to find for them as two mags came with mine , and I bought four more factory mags without any problem.....

If I were you, I would keep the 90 - two and the cx4. Love beretta quality and feel. Don't the mags work in both guns too? Anyway, great firearms and good value when going to trade them.

I think your only choice is to take them all for a spin around the dance floor. These are all decent guns from reputable companies. You find yourself in an enviable position. Most people have to guess at which pistol they would like. You get to spend some quality time with each of them.

could not be said any better, try them all and see which one says "pick me!"

The guns I enjoy the most are the ones that hit what I aim at. This is not the nicest or most expensive of my guns, but these are the ones I shoot the most and enjoy the most.

Some of those guns may feel comfortable in your hand but group poorly for you.

Shoot them all and chose the one that groups the best - for you.

Does not matter if it does not shoot to point of aim. Sights can be adjusted or changed.

from handling most of those my personal preference would be the baby eagle as long as it's a metal frame. feels good in my hand compared to the others.
which feels more like home in your hand?

It is the metal frame baby eagle and I picked up some ammo yesterday. As soon as the range dries up enough I will try out the baby Eagle and xd 40. By the way these guns will be sold when I get my Reg cert. Seeing that they are all excellent condition am I right in assuming that they should fetch about 80% of new value? I want to get as much as possible for my stepson but don't want them lingering around a store for a year

Thanks for the interest Neilm

Sounds like you're going to consign them, yes? Depending on your local gun market, you'll probably get more for them by selling them here on the equipment exchange. But then you have to deal with buyers directly, and some people don't care for that...

Sort of planning on consigning them but was wondering what kind of value to expect in case the dealer is not familiar with these. One of the non-restricted is a Tavor with a MEPRO21M reflex sight on iy and I can't find out much about that sight. I know this should go on a different post but maybe someone knows about this sight. Apparently it is also Israeli.

Oooh, the mepro is a pretty high-end unit, I think. Wolverine has some, I think, if you wanted to find your model's Canadian retail price.

I have zero direct experience with consignment, but I have heard that the dealer will take a serious cut. Maybe someone with more experience can chime in...
