Hi,
I am really interested in buying an SKS. I have two options. I can get a nearly brand new Norinco SKS right now for 180$ or I can call SIR and pre order a Russian SKS for 169$ and get it in December. This has been really bothering me lately. What do you think?

Get the Russian one...there's no comparison at all.

while i agree with cantom , i dont see why you must miss all the fun this summer so i would buy the norinco now and also order the russian from SIR , you dont have to pay for it till winter , giving you plenty of time to unload the norc in the fall .

BTW, wrong forum.

I would Get a Norinco now and the russian whenever they come in. I ordered one and a crate of ammo from CANAM. The anticipation was too much and I bought a cz 858 to tie me over till when the sks get here. You could miss out on a shooting season waiting for that sks boat to arrive.

cancel the unloading the norc in the fall , do it after you get the russian cos you never know when that might be ... dec08 or jan09 or feb10 :D

Order a russian(and cross your fingers), and keep an eye on the EE for a cheap norinco sks that you can buy and use as a beater.

Forget about Chinese and don't wait for Russian, just find Yugo in good condition.

Get whatever you can get and shoot.

thats not a good suggestion to a SKS newbie, have you checked on a price of a SKS yugo lately?

Almost $400  Hmmm... I got my new 5 years ago for $300, but i'm not surprised - price of a good gun just increasing with the time :D. So, at least, i can recommend it instead of buying Chinese+Russian. If he will buy Chinese right now, he will not resist of buying Russian one, when they, finally will arrive:D

Here is an interesting tid bit to cosider. I too am getting impatient but I have other toys to play with. Just for grins I went on to gunbroker.com. Well what an eye opener. The Russian SKS were comanding more money that the yugos by and far more than any Chinese. I decided then and there to be patient.
Sample Norinco SKS 200 and less
Yugo 245+
Russian 325 and up.
Nw there where some exceptions to sure but across the board the Russians are the sought after rifle.

I bought two red fiberglass stocks, one is for blade bayonet, one is for the spike bayonet. But the one w/ blade bayonet cut got some dark stain, it looked not so good, so I painted it with black truck bed coating.

Good, news. I just pre ordered a Russian SKS from SIR. I figured I could probably wait a bit linger and get a better SKS for cheaper. Plus, I recently got a 1934 hex Mosin-Nagant 91/30, so I can be happy just using that this summer.

Thanks to all who vioced thier opinions.
