I'm looking at a new powder for my 7mm mag with 168ish grain bullets. Maybe 162 eldx. I have used 7828, 7977, retumbo rl22, h1000 and h4831 all with fairly good results. My problem is I don't want to work up a load with powder that won't be available. Which powder would you put money on that will be readily available soon? Open to new powders as well.

Canada Ammo just got some Dominion D4831SSC Should work fine for your 7mm Mag. I am quite happy with the Dominion powders I have been using so far; may pick up 5 lbs of this as well.

go with the temperature insensitive powders...who ever Imr..hodgdon ...vv (apparently are ) according to there site.
Go with it ..holy Hanna I’ve experienced big time differences in point of impact and speed and pressure...I started to get rid of my regular powders and go with the extreme stuff or insensitive stuff...
Ya sucks that gotta do a new load ...but hey buy once cry once and never look back
Christ it’s twice I miss moose and deer ..but thank god dad was there ....all my shots were low due to the temp swing..it was hot that day increased pressure made the loads hot and all shoot low ....

Vihtavuori is still readily available for the most part. It isn’t even expensive by today’s blown out prices. The n560-65-70 series meters like cordwood though. It’s more of a challenge to work with.

They have some D4350SSC. Similar burn rate to RL19 or 4831 in my tests.

As for temp stability. Who knows. I personally don't load to the edge so it doesn't really matter.

I reload but I never push the limit. My main powders are H4350 and IMR3031 with a bit of IMR4064. Most hunting is done when temperature is around 0 deg. C + or - 10 deg.
Most of my target shooting is around 10-20 deg. C. Do I have to worry a lot about temperature swings as I can't say I have noticed much deviation in point of impact while hunting that I did not attribute to other causes. Calibers are .300 WSM, 7mm-08, .308 and 30-06.
If there is a big fluctuation then what about people that just use factory ammunition? Are the factory powders stable?
I hope I don't have to rethink all my favorite loads.

I agree, the bulk bottle of powder from Canada Ammo is great stuff.

You can get a five pound jug for that price of two Hodgdon's one pound containers.

These powders will usually need to have the load worked up as they aren't cannister grade. Still, five pounds will likely last you a while and you won't need to use much to get the load your rifle likes.

Right now price is irrelevant. The big sucking hole of ammo and components to the south creates that. For any specific caliber there are usually six or more recommended powders, when you find one, buy it. Hold your nose if.you must.

Powders most likely to be hard to find are the really popular for multiple calibers or target calibers....think Varget for 223 and 308 family.bPerhaps pet powders like H4350 for 6.5 Creedmoor.

H4350 has been my go-to for 6.5 x 55 for years. I had been reading good things about the D4350, and decided to give it a try. I started low, working up my loads as they suggested. I found it a little bulkier than H4350, so was unable to get quite as much in the case as I had been using with H4350, but the groups have tightened up a bit, and point of impact is about the same. It may be the compressed load that is contributing to the accuracy improvement. When I got up to the top end with H4350 and lightly compressed loads, the groups started to open up. Also, I had always used Large Rifle Magnum primers, and could not find any, so I got some Winchester Large Rifle, and I see no difference in performance.

Btw, my Lyman powder measure crunches the Dominion as much as it does the Hodgedon.
