which sould i get 204,223,243,or 308 for target.

wow... I am quite surprised at some of the answers. I agree with Mysticplayer. The 243 would be at the top of the list. Shoots 1000m no problem where 223 and 308 would be stretching. 223 will do it but would be best served with a fast twist and heavy bullet which may mean custom barrel for 1000m. 223 is also great for varmints. 308 is overkill for varmints in most cases and have great selection of bullets with good bc for 1000m but many feel it lacks punch. 243 has great selection of bullets from varmints to deer to 1000m shooting. Only downside to 243 may be cost of ammo but if you reload then it shouldn't be a problem. Having said all that I have many 308s. Just love the round.

Remember when choosing a rifle and caliber to be realistic. I chose a Remington 700 with 26" heavy barrel in 308 to shoot out to 1000m only to realize that there are no 1000m ranges locally so it rarely ever gets used. I have a bunch of other 308s that are better suited for my regular shooting. Plus if I were to do it over I would choose 243 for 1000m (actually probably 6br).

Having shot both the .223 and .308 at 1000 yards and 900m in competition, both calibers will punch holes in the target, no problem.
Over in England they shoot Match Rifle events with .308 out to 1200 yards.
These of course are match grade 30-34 inch barrels that will shoot 200-220 grain match bullets.
The .308 is the only caliber permitted for international competition like Palma.

HI guy's, which is the most acurate out of these rounds 204,223,243,308,and i would like a target rifle savage or rem700, what are your experiences guy's let me know (it would be for target long distance&varmint hunting).

Wow, this is a tough one I was going to say the 308 until you said "varmint hunting". I changed my mind to a 243. A 223 with a fast twist barrel will also work and be a cheap caliber to shoot.

I have looked into this for quit some time and the 6br is the best.
Fast twist gets you to 107 grn bullets for long distance and good BC
The recoil is light, just over a 223 so can be shot a lot in one day
without beating you up. If you check on 6mmbr.com you can get
any info you want. Some shoot to 1000 yds and is also very competetive
against a 6 ppc inside 300. At 300-600 a 12 twist shines, and sets most
of the records. Chambering and brass is readily available now, but
chambering to Lapua is better than remington.

Enjoy
