I was thinking stainless, but blued or park'd is ok too.... what's the conventional wisdom re: adjustable rear sights... are they worthwhile, or are the regular sufficient?
Just a tad over your price limit of 1000.00 but from their price list in the Dealers forum....a black stainless steel 1911 for 1068.00 (actually stainless with a black baked on teflon finish). It's listed with adjustable sights but I think it's a misprint because Springfield's website says they're fixed. For a range/target gun, I prefer having adjustable sights even though the bulk of my semi's have fixed sights.
If you want a plain 1911 with no extra features than go with one of the SPringfield GI's. But if you're wanting to go with a higher end one than get a Loaded model. As for the finish, sights, and other features you need to go with what you like the best. I like fixed Novak sights and a stainless finish the best. But thats just me.
Terry: The little that I know about the differences between the Springfield Armory GI versus the Milspec is like this:
* Milspec has higher (likely 3 dot) sights versus the little GI sights
* Milspec has a lowered & flared ejection port (for double taps), GI has the classic ejection port
* GI has vertical serrations and Milspec has angled serrations
And of course both come in a variety of finishes.
My wife shoots an IMBEL (they forge the Springfields in Brazil) in 9mm and she just won't let me have it back for our pistol matches. I'll just have to shoot my tricked out Norinco NP29.
I've owned 2 other Springfield 1911's and would just love to get back to them, if I did not have a son at University.
At the very least get a Springfield Mil-Spec , for the difference in price between the GI and Milspec, you get those useful features like the high visibility sights , lowered ejection port, and I think the magwell is beveled on the Mil-spec to aid in quicker reloading.
The problem with me is that I get persuaded that I could afford the low-priced basic model, but when I'm really going to buy it, I would always go for the better one...
