Which Stock to Purchase???

I own a Colt AR-15 Sporter2 A2 and wish to get a magpul stock (haven't decided which one yet). Do I purchase the Commercial version or the Mil-Spec version? I've been told that the Mil-spec is the only version that works on the Colt, but I don't want to order a stock and find out it doesn't fit. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :D

Colt takes mil-spec but you could get the commercial Magpul since it's marketed as "Universal" and will fit both commercial and mil.

All ar's have the same receiver buffer tube threads - the diameter of the buffer tubes are different between commercial and milspec
 
depends on the buffer tube you plan on using. If your colt comes with a mil spec buffer tube which I am sure it does you need to go with the milspec. If for some odd reason it has a commerical buffer tube then get the commerical.

You're probably mil-spec but if you happen to have a tube which is wider than the threads then it's commercial.

I prefer having a mil-spec stock on a mil-spec tube for the better fit regardless of the locking lever benefit.

Just a minute - what stock do you have now? An A2 with a trapdoor (full size non adjustable stock)? Or do you already have a collapsable stock and just want to change the buttstock portion? If you have a full size stock, you will have to change buffer tubes regardless. If you are changing, the choice is up to you - whatever you prefer. Keep in mind, a commercial adj stock will fit on milspec tube (it will be loose), where as a mil spec stock will not fit on a commercial tube. The threading on these tubes will be the same, but the commercial tube will flare out a little thicker further on, and I believe it is a tad bit longer as well. If you buy the Magpul CTR commercial tube, the CTR will actually lock down on a milspec tube as well, so if you plan on selling it later or swapping it to a different gun, the commercial might be a bit more practical.

I believe you've answered my question. I currently have a standard A2 solid stock on it - with the trap door - and wish to put a new stock on. If both a commercial and/or a mil-spec will fit the threads, I'll likely go Mil-spec and get the tube, spring assembly etc. for the new collapsible when I get the new stock.
