Which SWFA SS?

Building a BCL 102. Will be a multi use rifle; targets likely under 500yd, and for hunting. Not sure which model to get. 6x42, 10x42 (likely too much for hunting tho), or spend more than double on the 3-15x42. I've been crushing the web for info, and sounds like 6x is enough go get to 600yd easily, and should be good for all around hunting. Thoughts?
 
IMHO, either is a good choice. I've got the 6x42 SWFA SS on a Mauser 98K (8x57mm), and I rather like it. Excellent scope for the money. The furthest I've taken it out to is 300m (limits of my primary range). It helped me take a doe last fall.

In contrast, I've take a 10x Bushnell 3200 out hunting, and found that the 10X to be a touch to much for hunting (but really good for the range).

Thanks for the feedback! That's kind of what i was thinking for the 10x; lots of mag with little field of view when hunting. Thinking i might for for 6x, unless I'm patient and save for the vari.
 
I have the 6x MQ and 10x MQ. For hunting I'd prefer the 6x by a little. But these scopes are just easy to get behind and I'd gladly hunt a 10x too. The fixed SWFAs are clear, accurate/repeatable, durable and user friendly. Pretty incredible scopes for the cost.

Right on! I had a 10x for a while. Sold it when i parted out a rifle. I need an swfa ss back in my life. How far have you comfortably stretched your 6x to?
 
So you're familiar with the SWFA SSs. LOL.

My 6x is on a new rifle still in load development, so only 100 meters. But buddies of mine have fleets of the 6x, 10x and 3-9 since years and we've shot them all out to 1000+ meters. Kinda depends on conditions and target. Last time out we only had a couple small plates up at 507, 6 & 8 inch, hits wouldn't have been a problem with the 6x. The clarity is very good on all of the fixed SS, and the MQ is a very clean, functional reticle.

Right on; 6x it is! Too bad shipping from swfa is insane, but for the scope it's worth it. I really was blown away by the clarity on my 10x. Wish i didn't sell it but don't have a rifle for it now. I keep making up excuses for myself not to regret it THAT much ha. Hindsight right? My future has man SS's i think :)
 
If you're not in a rush, it's totally worth waiting for SWFA's Black Friday and Tax day sales. Crazy good deal on SS scopes then!
 
in my opinion, i say no to both of them. if scope is only aiming system on your hunting rifle, 2-7 or 3-9 is much better option. imagine if you have a deer come across at 40 yards or closer, how long it takes to find deer even at your 6x power? if you have see through rings or side mount which allow you to use iron sight, fixed power scope is good option.

I am not saying swfa is bad scope, on contrary they are too good for that price. fixed power means fewer glasses so they are comparable with SB or nightforce scope. metal threaded on metal is much reliable than glued which most of other commercial scopes use. Those fixed power scope are more suitable on DMR rifle because soldiers always have regular rifles beside to deal with closer range.

You know, I've thought the same thing. I'm building it as a dmr style rifle even tho I'm more of a keyboard operator and not so much a seal (although im allowed to dream all i want, right? XD) so I think I'll also invest in magpul offset sights in case bambi is ready to lick my hand.
 
That is why M planning to build my DMR rifle on Norinco m305. There are some scope mount which allow me to use iron peep sight when I have scope on it. I saw BCL in the range a couple times, I heard it is much easier to achieve M14 EBR accuracy level or better but its not in my budget range.

The all of rifles i will bring into woods has to be able to use iron sight and scope at same time. I have savage hog hunter with Leopold see through rings, I have Browning BLR with see through rings, I have 2 swedish mauser with M41B sniper side mount. I have Mosin nagant PU sniper, I have SKS with choate side mount and tech sight. Others which doesnt is either 1-6 power or 4-16 long range scope.

I'm interested in a couple 10x for my .223 and 6.5cm. What do they end up costing with shipping and the US doller being higher than ours? Looks like a solid scope.
