i tried looking, but there was no results or the wrong results to my question so i'm asking you guys.

what style of target (shape and size) do you find best for the 5m to 10m range using handguns (revolver or semi)? It would just be for target practice and not ipsc or anything competition related.

i'm currently using the target below which are 2x 4.5" circles printed on a 8.5x11 sheet of paper.

thanks!

I actually just use a plain sheet of paper and use a bingo dabber to put a small dot on it. A local trade paper puts a couple of sheets of blank newsprint in with their ads and I use those. TC

This is the target that I like for handguns at 7-15 meters, this example was at 50 meters using a .22 rifle/scope ( I can only dream of groups like that with a handgun ).
With this target I put 5 rounds into each square and then the bullseye, I find it easier to see the hits if they hit in the white areas.

I made my own target, i think it is great, you just sit the crossair like a Lego, i saw that years ago in a book... JP.

What you've got is just fine. Although my preference is for a bigger black center. For pistol shooting all I need is a spot that is large enough to see clearly at the distance I'm shooting from. For out to around 12 yards that means about 1 inch of black. For 25 yards I like 3 inches of black. For rifle at 50 and 100 I like the 6 inch Birchwood Casey Shoot N'C. For 200 it's the 12 inch BC Shoot N'C. For 300 I make do with the 12" BC's but I'd really like to find something about a yard in diameter to help the poor old guy's eyes that I seem to have... :D

If you wanted to get all fancy then something with a black center that appears to be the same width as the front sight blade would aid in centering the target. The classic bullseye guys do that with their targets. They set up the sights to allow for a 6o'clock or "lollipop" hold with the black center outline just resting on the middle of the front sight blade. The only trouble with this method is that it only works for that size round center at that distance.
