Which TIMER/Chrony is better quality ?

It is like clips vs. magazines...

The device you looking for is called chronograph. "Shooting Chrony" is a trademark of Canadian company manufacturing chronographs, but there are other manufacturers.

BTW, you should have paid more attention when you ammo been chronographed at Level III matches...

Still not sure why you don't understand, that I'm choosing to use the term "Chrony" to generalize all chronographs. I'm sure you're the only one who doesn't get me.

By the way, will all Chronys work if I throw "Kraft Dinner" thru them ;)

I'd like to support local company, but want the product that's better, if one is better for reliability and better record for reading correctly... Now how someone knows if their chrony is reading correctly, I don't know... I'm guessing folks who owned more than one brand/model thru-out the years can better answer, or folks, like Kent, who've been Chrony guy at level 3 matches, can better answer from experience with various models.

I appreciate all feedback up to now.
I look forward to more replies from folks with multi model experience as well.

You might wanna check the reloading forum or long range shooting forum....those guys probably have higher standards then action shooters

CEDM2, tons of features, nice display, does averaging, power factor and other stats right on it's display through the keypad input. IR screens are also available to use on fluorescent lit ranges or in the dark (I guess). Great value for the money.

one club member was owning a P-35 Oehler, about 8 years ago and sold it to me, from that time up to now, it given me super service, accurate, very well made, the performance is flawless and calibration never did changed over the years, if i ever get another one... It will be because i shot it... Hope not... JP.

Your grandkids will be able to use the p-35 regardless of lighting condition. Awesome chrony :)

No chrono will work on ranges with fluorescent lighting unless you have the infra red kit or a dedicated light bar setup for it. The flickering in fluorescent lights messes with the units.

I disagree with you. "Chrony" has become a ubiquitous term for all these devices and is an acceptable shortened form of the word chronograph. The proper comparison is calling a magazine a "mag", not a "clip" as you've stated. Trying to maintain an outdated standard of language will only result in your continued frustration. I suggest you let it go.

As far as the shooting Chrony goes, I have had calibration ammo from the same batch show a very minute variation, when used on three different ones in three different parts of the country. They are a low cost piece of insurance for checking your ammo. Get the infrareds and build a box for them with good clearance between the screens and lights.

I'm leaning towards one with the Infrared. I only find the Pact has this for decent price.

Likely to go with a Pact Club III timer as well... don't have one of those either.

Theres a unit that's chronograph/timer all in one, but too bulky for timer, and if I buy that one, still gotta buy screen thing and then get the Infrared accessory, will cost more than buying the 2 above separate.....

The CED M2 is 2nd choice, but will cost $280 & $120 for a timer...Don't mind a bit more $ for best product, but it seems that all are decent products...so prefer to save a few $$ for more ammo :)

The IR skyscreens can be used inside and outside. It comes with 4 defusers , 2 are for use with reflective tape for indoors and 2 without tape for outdoor use.
The timer/chrono combination is $189.95, and the 2009 M7 Infared Skyscreen System Complete w/BR is $89.95, for a total $279.90 plus shipping. Keep in mind that these prices are in US funds.

Your second choice is $199.00 for the chrono plus $89.00 for the screen set plus the cost for a timer $214.95 or $199.95. As a ballpark cost you are looking at over $500 plus shipping all in US dollars. All that for a slim line timer that may or may not do all that you want it to do.

Yes I agree, that the Pact is bulky but it has a large number pad and related buttons. It is bulky because it has the timer and chrono in the same box. By having them combined means you have one less piece to loose, forget at home or elsewhere. The Pact timer is excellent for training purposes, you can set par times (time between beeps) to perfect you draw, reloads and a lot more. Do you really need a colour display?

The above is only my opinion, take it for what it is worth. It is still your choice.

As it has been said long ago " Choose wisely Grasshopper" :)

I am sure owner of the "Chrony" trademark will disagree with you. The word you've had in mind is "chrono".
Anyways, who said I am frustrated? I am very happy to poke a fork into anyone calling things wrong names. They deserve that. :D

At the 2005 Ontario Provincials, I had two Chronys that wouldn't work right. I absolutely HATED Chrony for the trouble it gave us that week.
Since then, I've had CEDs & PACTs not work too. I now own a Chrony, a PACT, a CED and a Prochrono.

The only one that has never let me down is the Prochrono; but it is the newest.
My favorite feature in it is that the battery tray has a space to hold an extra battery for when you forget to bring a spare.

I have a light box made of plywood with two fishtank-style incandescents in it that works for the Pact, Prochrono and Chrony.
(I have the IR setup for the CED - it does take less space.) The light box cost about $30 at Home Depot to build.

I've asked the guy that makes the RU Ready timers why he never made a chrono (it seems like the natural progression.)
He said they're too much headache. Having seen enough of them be finicky, I believe him.

My advice: buy whichever has the features you like the most. Brand is pretty much irrelevant.

I know exactly what I have in mind. I find the use of "chrony" to be acceptable. I support your right to be disagreeable.

Yeah, that one was handy.

BTW, if you shoot Prochrono or Chrony, you will have to replace/buy the whole unit, and for CED M2 you can just buy spare parts like stands, sensors, etc (and have them ready). I recall at QC provincials few years back they shot that poor M2 3 or 4 times... As always, sooner or later it will happen with anyone.

is the combo one too bulky to put on your belt or have to set it down near you when training ?
is it too bulky to hold in one hand and use while RO'n a shooter ?
It does seem like a good product... I'll decide soon, after reading some more customer reviews... no brand seems to have super review...I guess they're all the same.
