Which Weaver base for Savage Mark II F?

I have a newer Savage Mark II F with the accutrigger. I'm looking to put an inexpensive scope on it but I'm not sure what I need for mounting.
I looked at the Weaver charts online and it says #16 for the 2 piece base is what I need but I've seen a bunch of posts with people saying #24 is the right size for this rifle. Will the #16 work?
I don't have the scope yet but I wanted to at least pick up the base and the rings first. Is this a bad idea before I get the scope?
I figured if I got the Weaver base and the weaver rings I could probably mount most scopes with this configuration. Not sure about the ring height though, that's another question............

#16 is the right one on the charts, #24 works as it has the sams curvature and screw spacing, but it is slightly lower than the #16's.
