Which Winchester Commemorative Would YOU buy?

I may be wrong, but I also understand that quite often the quality of the parts used to build the commemoratives were lower than those used for the general production line. Softer metals, flawed machining, etc., that the cheap plating covered up.

I've often felt the same way as the "quality" in the originals were often in the hand finishing, just not done today

I think they would be about the same quality as the regular guns, perhaps the emblems may be a little lesser .

"...in there..." In where?
"...an effort to flip them for a small profit..." Not a hope. Winchester Commemoratives are very bad investments. They do not increase in value quickly enough and you have to find a buyer who wants one.

+1 from an investment point of view

Well....That pretty much settles it for me. An investment deal it is not. I'm able to buy each firearm for $500 and they are local so no shipping but it oesn't sound like its worth my time. I new I came to the right place for this issue! Thanks folks. It's much appreciated.

Cheers!

Ya, that's too much. Good decision.

So I have the chance to purchase several Winchester Commemorative .30-30's. I can really only afford to purchase one or two. With that said, which would YOU buy from the list below and why? I'm probably just going to purchase one and turn around and resell it for a few bucks more (they've all been offered to me for what I believe is a good deal).

The list :

  • 1969 Golden Spike Carbine
  • 1975 Klondike Gold Rush (Canadian)
  • 1976 U.S. Bi-Centennial
  • 1977 Wells Fargo
  • 1978 Cherokee (Canadian)

All the above firearms com complete in there boxes with paper work to match. The Bi-Centennial comes with a wall rack also.

So, which item would you recommend to buy or which would YOU buy and why?

(Sorry, you'll have to google these firearms if you want photos)

Cheers!

None. They're not worth it.

Yeah, saw those on thegundealer site. A few people seem to like the commemoratives but as an investment they all suck. Guys who bought them back in the 1960's and 70's would have made a killing if they had purchased old 1873,1886,1892 and 1894 Winchesters in high condition and kept them until now. Those rifles could be had for a song back then and command big bucks today and will continue to appreciate. Generally speaking anything that is manufactured for the sole purpose of collecting will not appreciate much at all.

Holy old thread resurrection Batman!

That's exactly what a record collecting friend of mine says. If it says "Collector's Edition" on the label it's not.
