NAA.

C2 a nice gun???? Mine shoots minute of barn on full auto. The Bren is so much more effective. C2 mags are 30 round.

You obviously were not trained properly then! C2 30 rd mags worked like sh!t, a gunner who wanted to provide proper efficient support fire always had a couple of 20's available. And yes the Bren was a nice gun, I remember firing one when I was in cadets. Boy am I aging myself.

I used the FNC2 a lot, I even won two awards at CON NAUGHT range, It can be a good gun if used right. I was taught how to finger tap it, when it was set to full auto, and to pull back on the bi-pod other than push forward like the manual says. Doing these two technique made this section support weapon a lot more accurate. Better even if there was a second person holding the bi-pod. Still no way near the Bren, but it was OK, as it was designed as an area fire weapon.

What's my role? Section Commander? Rifleman? Support Weapon's Gunner?

With respect, this is the problem with these polls - they reflect a fundamental misunderstanding of the nuances of the above infantry sub-roles. You have to live the trade to truly understand it.

My preferance as a commander? An M1 Carbine all the way. SMEs say that the MP-43 was the world's first production assault rifle. I call bulls**t. The M1 Carbine was the first to employ an intermediate cartridge and it was entirely adequate. Check out the total production numbers and length of service (well into Vietnam). The M1 Carbine is a kick-arse piece of kit. The M2 (with auto feature) was even better. I would carry one of those if I had too, but of course I would prefer my issued C8 FTHB carbine.

My opinion, FWIW

A lot of people measure the M1/M2 carbine against a full power rifle, when it was actually designed to replace the pistol.

The Carbine round is a marginal killer at ranges over 100 yds,but it was a light, fast and handy weapon which was ideal for troops like arty gun numbers, combat engineers and others who served in a highly mechanised army. It was also a good piece for people who's needs were more along the lines of self-protection,like an infantry platoon comd burdened with maps and radios. In Korea it was well regarded for close in fighting, night fighting, patrolling etc where it could generate a lot of firepower at close range. It became quite popular with Cdn troops for these reasons and many "aquired" them in preference to their Lee-Enfields and "stench" guns.

It is an attractive piece. I got my first one back in 1965 and always found it a fun thing to shoot. Never contemplated taking it deer hunting though.

The Lee Enfield No.5 Mk.I "Jungle Carbine". Failing that, the Russian M38 Carbine or Japanese Type 38 Cav. Carbine. All are short, handy and really can pack a punch if used well.
