I voted 'when stalking game'

but, usually I walk around with the chamber empty, until a) I'm ready to shoot, b) when I'm stalking something I want to shoot, c) when following up wounded game, d) when I see a bear :D

Always have one at the ready, safety on while walking (obviously)...

I spend too little time in the bush (about 3 weeks out of the year) to let something as dumb as an un-ready gun spoil a good hunt.

Almost always when hunting by myself.

Sometimes when hunting with others.

When I'm hunting with my young son at my side I lift the bolt handle part way but it's got one in the spout. He know's if the rifle hit's the shoulder to plug his ears, otherwise we glass with our bino's and the gun just hangs on my boone packer sling.

Always when hunting. You never know when somthing will pop out. I almost never use a sling and carry the rifle in my hands. There is a sling in my pack if I feel the need to carry my rifle like a purse  , or if I need both hands. I love to hunt with guys that won't load thier gun or use a sling. Any critter that jumps up will be mine, every time. Then the sad ass beside me will always say the same type of thing "you shot so fast" or "I wasn't ready" ect.............to bad sucker

X2 My neighbour after the moose run over hill, now has a new name for an unloaded gun....a STICK

Whenever I head into the bush, unless we are setting up a drive then only the first person in the group has the chamber loaded. When on a stand or walking alone you bet I have the gun loaded, the gun on safety, finger out of the trigger guard and always watch the barrel. If I come to some loose ground or obstacle the chamber is opened just in case.

Deer hunting (on foot) here in the East is alot like upland hunting.

Flush a deer, shoot, pump rifle and shoot again, if needed :!:

Always loaded

When I hunted out west (w/boltgun), chamber empty, mag full.
