Always have one at the ready, safety on while walking (obviously)...

I spend too little time in the bush (about 3 weeks out of the year) to let something as dumb as an un-ready gun spoil a good hunt.

I hunt with one in the chamber because I hunt in the bush. Five% of the animals I have shot have been in cut blocks or open fields the rest have been dragged out of the bush. When in the bush you are in close proximity to the animal. To chamber a round and then shoulder the rifle is just way to much noise and movement.

I voted always as well, you have to always be ready otherwise you see a lot of animals asses waving good bye to you. Just have the safety on and control the muzzle of the firearm and there should never be a problem.

I voted ONLY WHEN READY TO SHOOT, however things are DIFFERENT up here as the terrain is not obscurred by trees and bush and well Tuktu(caribou) are purdy dumb and you can get close.(mainly hunt caribou up here) Interesting to see what folks here actually do do when hunting ... interesting yes!

p.s. I'm surprised at this post ... :p

Yup ... most of the time. Obviously there are times when you should have your rifle unloaded. But ready means ready

As soon as we are out camp or off the ATV or out of the truck, there's one in the chamber. You never know when the game will appear; I speak from experience. :( Of course, when climbing a stand or whenever the firearm will be out of my direct control, it's unloaded.

Cheers!

When ever I leave camp walking.Unloaded rifle not much good when an animal busts out of the woods near you .Especially when it stops to have a look at you and you are struggling to load.Seems silly to walk around with an unloaded rifle
to me.Hunting costs too much to let game walk away.

I carry my 500 for bear defence, only chamber it in dense bush or walking a game trail, or when i see fresh tracks. I also leave the safety off, so i don't forget when charged from 10yards.

I also work alone and don't have to worry about muzzle direction, except my own body and I am damm careful as I do not want to blow my own leg off. Not to mention the safety on my gun is really stiff.

always when hunting. If the goverment belives I was good enough to have a loaded C7 during execises with live ammo in the company of a few good men. Then I think I can carry a loaded hunting rifle. I guess experience would be the thing to go by
