My favorite small game hunting spot is kitty corner to a goat trail with the unfortunate nickname thieves road.
At this corner about six years back I discovered three carcasses of cattle.
A mature cow with yellow ear tag. All the meat and bones of her body save the head and hide was literally gone.
Her eyeballs removed from sockets but strangely no offensive odor. No maggots at all or flies or any small critters to snack on the cow.
Her two calves the major bones stacked very neatly between to small spruce trees.
There was more blood here but again no odor no flies no crows no whiskey jacks to speak of.
This was early fall. I reported it to the police and they forwarded this to local livestock inspector.
In followup they told me was definitely cattle rustling from elsewhere. Gutsy thieves right along fairly busy rural township road. This would have taken at least 3-4hours to butcher in unfriendly conditions with good light and proper tools. There had to have been road traffic along this gravel road and half a mile away is a pumping station so oil workers frequent this access.
I know it was theft but the lack of maggots flies and birds kind of weird thing to see in boreal forest.
Anyone else ever experienced this or similar ??
