I was reading on another forum about the lettering on your receivers of M14's and M1 Garands being put in with either white paint or white crayon. Has anyone done this in Canuckistan? I like the way it looks actually. Post a pic if you have done this please. I gotta go buy a crayon and try this. :D

I did it on one of my 14s..........was pretty easy.

Thin brush.......white paint...........paint inside the lettering and wipe off any excess that gets on the reciever. because the lettering is stamped into the metal, if you are careful wiping off the excess paint, the paint in the lettering isn't affected..... ;)

Have my LRB's like that, used a white paint stick from Brownells.

I just use WhiteOut from Staples or Zellers. Commonly found in your desk, don't spend a pile of money on this. Acetone is your friend for cleanup purposes. I like doing this kind of marking. Common practice among American M1 Garand collectors and shooters, not to mention NRA High Power competitors. :D

Cheers mates!

Hey jokes aside, I have been known to use my wife's "hooker Red" colour for my rear sights and it's mechanical alignment, in the past! :D

What happens is that you keep your rear sights centered on the vernier and ONLY move the front sight (right or left to the opposite of the desired POI, point of impact). Then once your rear sights are centered and your bullets are landing in the center of the bull, I will place 2 hash marks with "Hooker Red" nail polish along the bottom of the vernier... this will be my quick reference to return my rear sights back to mechanical center! :)

And there you go, memories of NRA High Power shooting with an accurized M1A (because I want to take the rifle down to Camp Perry, Ohio).

Cheers,
Barney

check out you tube.....use some brake cleaner to prep surface then use white china marker to fill voids. Then wipe off excess with brake cleaner. works well on mags too.
