white tail hunting in Sask.

3rd to 4th week of November is always a busy time for deer calling, they are out there, just gotta work a bit for em, if you are willing to call and put time in you will get an animal.

Folks forget when they start rutting is that mid-day is just as good as morning and evening.

These windy conditions are keeping them in shelter but use that to your advantage.
 
I am getting reports from the land owners where I hunt that there are a few deer moving around and a few good sets of horns too. Peak movement seems to be around daybreak burn as KT said they'll move any part of the day as well. If they are holed up in the crap go in after them. Set up in a blind or tree stand and rattle and call. They will move right to the end of the season and even beyond looking for does.

I was out moose hunting last Friday. Entire day only saw one young mulie buck. Saw 11 moose though, unfortunately they were all out of my range. I have white tail tag this year, but thinking to take a break and give the deer a break too. Hopefully next year will see more white tails in SK.
 
You have to wonder who is advising our current government on our big game seasons in Sask.Although I have seen adequate deer numbers in our area the whole province is complaining about the lack of deer.So they shorten the season up for a week for resident hunting yet still allow non residents to hunt,Im not sure shortening the season to two weeks will help much but non resident hunting should be the first thing to go until the numbers have recovered.
 
There were concerns about the whitetail population. The Big Game Advisory Board, their own biologists, and CO's put their recommendations before the government but these were completely ignored when it reached cabinet.

Manitoba recognised how dire the issue was and stopped all non=resident hunting and went to bucks only.

Right on. We have guides bringing Americans in to hunt deer just a couple of miles from my place. Money talks ...
 
I'm the last guy to stick up for outfitters, but they do have contracts with hunters and that would break most of them if they had to give the money back on short notice. If they don't get their quota cut back next year though I'm gonna snap.

The non resident Canadian licence should be gone, and when the numbers improve should be brought back only for those provinces that have a reciprocity agreement. If I can't hunt your province un-guided, stay home.

To a certain extent the problem is self correcting. Lukewarm hunters will stay home or quit quickly when they aren't seeing animals. It'll be like the 70s all over again.

There are pockets with good deer numbers but they are few and far between.
 
I head out again tomorrow, I have been seeing animals, lots of sign and plenty of game camera pics, I will update my post here once I am home and and view my memory cards.

Everybody gets discouraged when they don't bag an animal early but truth be known it is right about now when they get moving and start responding from my observations.

Again, I could give two hoots if I bag anything I am out there for fresh air and scenery. :)
