Is it even legal? Its not in BC, Bison is the only animal with minimum bullet weight and energy requirements here, all the other big game just specifies centerfire rifle.

Yes, there are regulations about bullet energy and min. bullet weight among a few other things to be concerned with.

BC has NO ! caliber law but needs a 175 gr bullet that has 2000 ft lbs of energy at 100 meters ! RJ

Yeah, it’s funny, when I read the title, I assumed he was accidentally shot by another hunter, so when I read it was the bison, I was sort of relieved for some reason.

Somehow it just seems more... I don’t know... acceptable somehow. Like, circle of life stuff. Still tragic of course, but at least it’s not like an accidental shooting where some other guy has to live with the consequences of his actions.

What is the minimum round for bison defence?

The 7/08 can be loaded to BC specs and I know of at least one person who shot a bison with that load.

Similar incident few years ago, but man survived. He was shooting a .338 ultra mag. Bison are incredibly tough, and will suck up even the largest caliber if not hit properly.
