whitetail decoy

I agree with Hoyt. I have shot a bunch of deer with a decoy both bow and gun. Mine gets sprayed with scent remover sometimes 2-4 times daily and certainly before and after I touch it. I drench it and sometimes use attractant scent, not often. I have also rigged a single antler that seems to trick them occasionally as well. Like any decoy sometimes they work, sometimes not. Does will often be spooky, but come back numerous times.

Have a buck posturing for it at 20 yds and there ain't nothing like it. As mentioned above it focuses the deer's attention on something but you.
how well do they work in early season?

On that note I agree be careful when moving them in low light, that is why I like mine it folds up and goes in a bag.
An example is I was hunting with a guy(N0 Longer due to this and several other unsafe issues) We were sitting on a swamp edge about 500yds apart. I had given him my ghillie suit and decoy to use as he was atop a fairly open brush pile. Breaking daylight and I see a deer moving down by him almost in his lap, little misty as the sun comes up. Me thinks he should be taking a shot soon. This goes on for a couple minutes and I get out the bino's to see what is up. Apparently, he didn't like where the decoy was placed in the dark so this wizard decided to move the decoy - while fully camoed in my ghillie suit. I could see the decoy no problem but him carrying it not so much without binos. He just couldn't understand why I was pissed. I finally had to say it wasn't him getting a bolt run through him it was how much time it would take to wash the blood out of my camo. He still did not see the issue and wonders why we don't ask him out any longer.

I had a Big Boss Buck but it scares everything but 250lb or bigger deer so I got rid of it...I've had a few bucks come in to my Flambeau feeding doe decoy. I keep a white hankie soaked with doe pee in a zip loc and attach to a protruding screw that I've installed from the inside out.

I have the same Flambeau doe as Hoyt's; mine has 3 1/2 legs. :) I've painted the white areas with day-glo orange for safety as I have used it (carefully) during gun season a few times.

Aside from the flapping rag and urine-soaked tissue tricks, I make sure it's thoroughly sprayed down with scent killer after I handle it, and I actually wear latex gloves when I touch it in the field.

I also find that it's easy to spook deer with a decoy if it's set up close enough to cover that they don't see it until they're right on top of it; in that circumstance they just about turn inside-out in their mad dash to get away. It works best when placed so that it's at least 100 yards or more from the spot the deer will be when they emerge from cover and see it. In a brushy field that can be tricky, especially when you are not sure which way they might come from. You can take the legs off the decoy and put it on top of a bush for visibility. Looks idiotic, but the deer don't seem to care.

Be careful if decoy can be seen from the road, don't think I'd want to be carrying it across a field at dusk and Dawn lol

this is one of the reasons I like bowhunting. It's early season and nobody in the bush except for poachers and natives. If you are careful enough there is almost zero chance to see them. I usually don't go where I see another truck or people.
Any other tips to stay away from other people?
