We generally go north for moose, but thi# year we need to stay closer to home, this year.I’m thinking of a white tail hunt in late September, early October. Was thinking about somewhere along highway 3, if the deer population is still good .Not looking for trophies, just a good hunt .Any general ideas?
Thanks

The last time I went through Grand forks, most of the yards that had nice gardens were protected by 8’ no-climb fencing. There were many deer all the way from Rock Creek to Christina Lake, but that’s good the only place that gardens looked like prisons. Purely anecdotal , I know, but the evidence is there. Good luck.

I see lots of them east of vernon when I go bear hunting in August for the private property only hunt. We're gonna try for whitetails at the farm this year if we can find the time.

I do crop claims for wildlife damage in the southern interior. There are very heavy whitetail populations along Hwy 3 from Bridesville to Greenwood and up the Christian Valley along the Kettle River north from Rock Creek. A couple of years ago in the spring I counted 600 plus whitetails in the fields in a 10 km stretch from Westbridge to the north. The whitetail population is getting bigger all the time, a combination of less hunting and low winter kill.:sok2

Go looking early and get permission before the rush begins. Look for irrigated alfalfa crops as the real hotspots.

Are the farmers generally receptive to hunting on their land or would you be looking at crown land adjacent to farming?

Hopefully we can connect with a farmer who will give us permission to hunt, better yet set up camp .We are all responsible guys,no drinking in camp and all we leave is our foot prints..having a place to go is huge bonus when you have to drive a long way( we’re on the Island)
