Whitetail hunting with dogs????????

Perhaps I'm just a little moody, but there sure seems to be a lot of stinky threads lately :runaway: .

To me dogs are a tool of the trade, all part of the game. Just like "hiding" fully camouflaged in a treestand, using ###ual attractants or cover scents, calling, baiting, etc. Any speak against any of these perfectly legal and fair-chase methods usually comes from soccer moms, not other hunters :mad: .
 
Well I think that some folks are pissed that they can't use dogs, others are pissed that others don't like the idea that some folks use dogs. And finally others are pissed cause everyone else is getting pissed, a kind of addiction :D
So anyone have an opinion on Night time hunting deer, why is it not legal, deer move more at night, could use IR , would be safe for hunters. This would be handgun only. :D

I think the allow night hunting for some critters in OZ?

As far as night time goes, it would invovle lights, which is condsidered poaching in Canada, and let's not even stsrt with the handgun stuff, levvi!!:(
I wopuld love to hunt with one of those big azzed Contenders or S&W's!:dancingbanana:

IMHO, this is just "another example" of canadian sportsmen NOT supporting their fellow sportsmen...

cycbb486... You'd have a TOTALLY different opinion of using dogs on deer IF you grew up doing it... Open your mind man... "YOU" may not like the idea, but YOU HAVE to support your fellow sportsman...

Think of it like this... "IF" you sided with the ANTI's on the issue of dogs on deer, and the government then made it ILLEGAL to use dogs on deer... "How long" do you think it would be before those anti's were trying to stop your hunting ALL TOGETHER...

Think man, think... I stand behind EVERY type of legal outdoor activity... To let one fall by the wayside is to ultimately see the demise of the sporting outdoors as we know it!!!

I guess you don't do that much upland hunting. What about flushing dogs for pheasants? Same principle. Dogs #####-cross a field to force the birds to flush. Otherwise they'd most likely run on the ground.

No this isn't just expressing an opinion. You are passing judgement on a legal activity that is an accepted practice in other jurisidictions. If you don't like it then don't do it but don't attempt to elevate yourself by criticizing other practices.

There are many legal hunting activities that I don't personally agree with and do not do but I'm not out to question or curtail the practice as a result. That is what anti-hunters do.
 
Here in BC they can Run Cougars, Bears & Birds with Dogs but anything else and they Must be leashed ?
Laws don't always make complete sense...but they are there.
Pick the Activities that appeal to your tastes and leave Others to do the same :)
 
Take a look at my avatar - that would be two Jamtland hounds that have brought a brown bear to bay.

Too bad we don't have laws REQUIRING all big-game hunters to have access to a trained trailing dog, 'cause it can sometimes be hard to find downed prey, be they furred or fowl.

By the way cycbb486, do you also have a hard time dealing with the way wolves hunt?

I raise bird dogs for upland game. I don't know how you'd hunt some of the cover we release and find birds in without a dog.

Hunting deer with a dog is a different situation. Although in the cover I hunt in, I wouldn't personally feel the need to hunt deer with a dog. I would blood track a wounded animal with a dog without question. I'm sure there are locations where hunting with a dog in thick cover would be a better and more humane way to acomplish the task.

If you don't like it, don't do it! If you don't agree with it, get informed before sharing your opinon with the world.

I never expected people to take such an offence to someone voicing there opinion about a matter that they disagree with. Does it make me change my mind, No.

In regards to standing beside my fellow man in the aspects of hunting and whether or not it is an ethical way of hunting, I have the right to stand by him or walk away. In some instances I would rather choose to walk away.

I will leave it at that because I can open a whole other can of worms and really get this thing into a ur++++++g match.


Tommorrow morning I will get up at 5AM, hop in my pickup and drive the hour to my hunting grounds for a morning sit. Meet my partners in town for coffee, get a game plan, and proceed to probably walk another 3-4 miles and see what will come of it.

You want the number for my uncle? you can volunteer too push bush for his 11 member camp of 60 and 70 year olds!

They cant push bush, they cant climb into treestands, they cant still hunt. They drive theyre 4 wheelers out, park them, pull out theyre 30-30's, one member drives into the middle of them and sets a couple dogs loose. They have fun, they kill a couple deer every year, no one gets hurt, no one dies of a heart attack...

But hey,,, I guess since theyre getting up theyre in age and health isn't that great they should risk the chance of dieing or just quit hunting because someone doesnt agree that what they have been doing for 50+ years isnt right!
 
The real issue here has nothing to do with people's opinions or their right to one.

The real issue is that the hunting forum is not the place to bash any form of hunting, simple as that. It just isn't what this place is about.

and cycbb486... Your intitled to your opinion, that you don't think using dogs on deer is very "sporting", but what you did with your intial post was criticise an entire group of fellow hunters... If you don't agree with it, don't do it...


As an aside... When the semi-auto ban rumours were flying, I happened to be in the local Can Tire for ammo... Another guy was standing there... So I said... "Did you hear that they are "thinking" of banning semi's???"... His reply was... "Oh well, that doesn't affect me... I only shoot bolt actions..."

I couldn't believe my ears! Typical canadian reply... Sportsmen HAVE to stand together!!!

i absolutely love using dogs for deer. every day in camp i would volunteer to be the dogger. what could be better then a compass two dogs and a 44 mag win 94.

its very exciting when ur behind the dogs and you hear them bark and then u no something is near. way more exciting then just sitting in a stand. and u get to learn the game trails and behavours of whitetails.


just my opinion.
