3 Triple Seven pellets
295 gr Powerbelt 50 cal aerotip.

Seems to be targetting ok.

Anyone else shooting something similar? Any suggestions??


Both these deer shot with the above load this morning. Buck at 100 yards, double lung and heart, complete pass thru, 30 yd recovery. Doe at 75 yards, entered her shoulder, took out lung and smashed opposite shoulder to bits, complete pass thru, 200 yd recovery.

On the doe, I do believe the bullet took a right turn when it entered, as it came out front of her opposite shoulder and she was broadside to me

You may find your gun more accurate with 2 pellets.Accuracy tends to fall off after 120gr even though magnum rated at 150gr.Deer are still very dead.With loose powder it's easier to customize a load.You could get some 30gr pellets as well and try 2 /50gr and one 30gr? Experimenting is half the fun............Harold

max load isnt always the most accurate, use the highest load that is the most accurate for your gun, this of course requires a lot of shooting and fiddleing with a load. of course if your using pellet powder, you only have so many combinations to work with *pats his traditional caplock and goex powder*

I just shot 2 mule deer at 200 yds ranged with a lrf. Using 100 grs 777 (pellets) and 245 grain Barnes Spitfire bullets. Velocity through my chrony was 1910 fps at 15ft from muzzle. I also tested 150 grains at 2214 fps @ 15 ft from muzzle...it became a case of diminishing returns...I added 50 more grains of powder and got an extra 300 fps and a s**t pile more felt recoil...

Oh yeah the 2 dead Mules...did not know the difference...

Not sure what shooting good means to you but I used the 250 grain powerbelts the first year I started with 100 grains 777, it shot Ok for me. Even got a deer with it.

In the off season I tried TC 250 grain Shockwaves and they were much better in the gun.

Comes back to trying different things.

I switched to a TC Triumph last year and it hated the 250 grain Shockwaves but loves the 300 grain Hornady SST with 100 grains.
 
The most accurate load I have fired so far out of my Tradtions Buck Hunter 1:28 is a Hornady black sabot, Home cast 240 grain .45 bullet and 80 grains of loose 777. Consistent 1.5 to 2 inch groups at 100 yards. The only other loads I used were a few of the ready assembled pistol bullet/ sabot combinations and they all shot around 3". I keep forgetting my cronograpgh when I go to the range but one of these days I'll remember. GRIN I took my first muzzle loader deer with one of these home cast bullets this year. Performed excellent.

no need for more then 100gr of powder out to 150yds but looks like they did the job with 100gr the powerbelt would have caused more internal shock and trauma by eliminating the pass through.

Yeah, he wasn't overly big and she was a nice doe. Second big doe like that this year.

Here is a pic of the first buck from this year. Rack not near as nice, but he was a donkey.
