Who "breaks in" a 22 barrel ?

Just wondering how many of you break in a 22 barrel and how you break it in? I have read dont break it in, polish it with compound first to aid the break in and never break in. Whats your thoughts on this??

I just followed Savage's recommendation, which I think was something like:
3 shots...clean bore with patches till clean
repeat,
repeat,
Shoot the heck out of her.

Well, there aren't any match guns in my house....and almost everything I've bought was previously owned/shot. The only rimfires I've bought new (Savages) have never been given any special TLC like that. Load them, shoot them, repeat. I do tend to keep my guns cleaner than they need to be though...and I've read in plenty of places that it may negatively impact the accuracy.

no one that i know of or have even heard of. the bullet is soft and slow, no idea how it could break in a barrel

Breaking in barrels is a conspiracy crafted by barrel and ammunition manufacturers in order to sell you more product. Don't waste your time; shoot the damn thing and enjoy it.

I got a Pietta PPS-50 from Frontier and they suggested the same thing, initial quick clean and then put rounds through it.

my new ones got broken in the same day they were bought, taken to the field and shooting gophers. run a patch, and back at her the next day. Seems accuracy improves with use.

I do the same as the rest, give her a quick initial clean; then give'r hell!!! After the first brick she'll shoot like a dream...

22 rifle barrel break in instructions are as follows. If you do not follow this to a T your #### will fall off

Buy 22lr rifle
Buy case of ammo
Go to the range, your own farmland, or crown land
Shoot case of ammo

There you go. Break in done.

It takes very little time and effort.
You only get one chance to do it.

My procedure (for NIB rimfires) is as follows;

1. Get gun home, disassemble, clean thoroughly, reassemble.
2. Take to range
3. Load magazine(s)
4. Shoot until mag(s) is empty
5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 until ammo supply is depleted
6. Once gun starts acting up, repeat steps 1 thru 5.

I've had a lot of experience with .22s and I have never broken them in any way except shooting a whole brick of ammo through them. When I get the gun, I buy a brick of the copper plated rounds (brand doesn't matter) and shoot through it.
