Who builds a nice SxS field gun these days?

I'm interested in a nice side by side upland gun. 20ga would be ideal but I'd consider other gauges. I looked at a yildiz the other day and it looked and felt good but I've got very little to compare it to. I did handle a used Sauer double in 16ga for the same price as the new yildiz. Any thoughts on favourite manufacturers would be appreciated.

Ended up buying a CZ because;

It was ver pretty.. Sxs 410
2/ heavier receiver... (Steel?)

A good topic. I would like to add a light weight 20 ga, 28" barrels, with changeable chokes and rated for steel shot to the collection. I want to use it for upland, doves and some occasional skeet.

I also looked at the Yildiz but not being familiar with the brand decided not to take the chance. A friend bought an O/U a few years back (Stoeger?) and had a lot of problems with it. I'm also looking at the SXS's and would also like the ability to use steel in case I go for ducks but mostly for trap etc.
 
Does anyone in Canada sell the CZ Sharptail? Other options would be a used Franchi Highlander or a Fair Iside although the availability of both are pretty slim and I m guessing they would also command a good dollar on the used market.
 
Cz ringneck and bobwhite are well within that range. Ive been looking for a similar upland gun, but ive decided to make it hard on myself by trying to get a 28ga as well.
 
Stoeger makes a few, I've looked at them in the gunstores they're not bad. I'd really like to get a 16 or 20 gauge 'do everything' hunting shotgun. I think the over/under might be better for this, I've heard slugs don't fire straight from SXS shotguns but I've never owned one before or tested it out. I'm currently just rocking the single shot 16 gauge, but it's one of those 12 gauge frame ones so it's super heavy. Doesn't recoil at all tho, you could like hold it to your crotch and fire np
 
I have shot and hunted the Yildiz SXS in 20 and the CZ Mini Bobwhite in 18 gauge.
The CZ guns are incredible guns for the cost and shoot very well.
The Yildiz is generally a bit lighter but not by much .
Either are a great bargain for a hunting gun and I would have no worries about leaving any of my higher end guns at home at using either.:rockOn:

Agree. I have a cz in 28ga and it is sweet and works very well . Mind you it took me a while to find it when I was looking to buy one
Also a 28ga Savage SXS which I think that is made by Baikal so far it goes bang all the time when the trigger is pulled and about 35% less cost than the cz and would probally do most upland hunters just fine

My son has a CZ Bobwhite 20 SXS... it is a nice little gun but has been in for warranty work twice for firing pins puncturing primers and sticking in the out position, thus locking the action after firing. The problem eventually was rectified and the gun is fine now. I borrowed it for a late season hunt last fall and bagged a few grouse, it was a comfortable carry and felt good at shoulder.

I have never owned or shot a Yildiz, but the wood on some of them is incredible at that price point... kinda makes me "ticked off" at Browning and Ruger.

If you were patient, you could find a nice used SxS for that price on the EE, much nicer than what you would find new.

I just bought a nice Miroku Charles Daly 20ga O/U for well under $1K. You couldn't touch anything like that new for that price.

I had a 20ga Bobwhite for a couple years. Gun worked perfectly and fit me well. I finally sold it cuz the wood had the same grain as carboard. Bought a used SKB M100 20 ga off the EE and was good to go again.

Wish I was as lucky as you, paid a pretty penny for my CD Miroku 20ga.

Was it a private sale or gun shop?

Local gun shop sale. Gun shows use but not abuse. Bored IC/IC from F&M. 3" chambers and ejectors. No cracks or alterations. I thought it was a good deal.
 
You can get a lot of gun on the used market if you're patient and know what to look for. I saw a brace of J.P. Sauer 12 bores on a local Facebook group along with an anonymous guild gun going for $1500 for the three.
