I am looking at purchasing a .311 bore 28" S.S. rifle blank from a fellow cgn'er and am wanting to have it threaded for a lee enfield, BSA SHTLE 3* receiver .... ya I know.... why bother wasting such a barrel on a 3* ...... because i want to :D

anyone do this work in canada? I could check with dlask as he is local.... but not sure he's gonna have the specific thread tooling for the enfield.

recommendations??

"...because I want to..." That's reason enough. "I want one" is the best reason there is. You can call it an excuse too.
"...not sure he's gonna have..." Call and ask. Most smithies make their own tools.

As far as I know the Enfield isn't a crazy square thread or anything. It is a 55 degree thread vice 60. So, anyone who can do normal barrels should be able to grind a 55 degree cutter and thread it for you. It is a 14tpi thread from what I can find in my reading.

You just have to find someone with a match grade 303 reamer and the desire to work on a Lee Enfield. Regards, Bill

I have all the tools to cut the chamber, crown the muzzle, bead blast the shine off..... ect ect ect... also have the full bench set up for barrel work on m14/m1a/ rem 700, savage, win 70, enfield 1, 4 and 5 ...... I just need someone to put some threads on the darn pipe for the reciever ;)
thanx so far to those who have p.m.'d me with suggestions, appreciate it ;)

Any machine shop can cut any kind of thread you want. Probably one hour's labour charge. Regards, Bill.

Hi Thomas:
I know where you're at. I have a .311 blank in the mail coming my way as we speak. I also have a nice Lithgow with a rotten bore.
I have a lathe in my basement that can handle those threads. You're welcome to use it, but coming to Sudbury is a long commute, so I guess I'm not much help.

I have all the tools to cut the chamber, crown the muzzle, bead blast the shine off.....

Don't forget milling the extractor cutout .... but with a little patience I'm sure you could file it without too much difficulty !
