Who can re-barrel / re-classify Kel-Tec Sub-9 ?

Don't know if it's has been done before...

I'm thinking about un-restricting the Kel-Tec Sub-9 carbine (16.5" bbl).

- would it be enough just to replace the barrel with longer one (18.5"+) ?
- any other consideration that could interfere with making it non-restricted?

I've called Epps since they are known for fixing Storms... no luck... the answer was "we don't have machinery for that". :(

Anybody else around who can do that? Any ideas?

You'll be looking at a custom barrel. No demand for longer barrels. Mind you, as it's a straight blow back you won't run into any gas system issues. The trick will be finding a 9mm barrel blank that's long enough. Think in terms of roughly $100 per hour for machining the blank. Plus installation and the cost of 9mm chamber reamers and headspace guages.
Try the smithy at Shooter's Choice in Waterloo.
Then you'd have to talk to the CFC about de-restricting it. You still won't be able to use a mag larger than 5 rounds.

Yes, replacing the barrel with a 18.5"+
is enough and it has been done before
(provided that the gun is verified and
paperwork done for the re-classification).
Sub9 already has 2 FRT #'s for non-restricted, IIRC
(and sub40 has FRT #('s) for non-res as well).


In BC, it has been done by Dlask and (I think) Bits Of Pieces
in 9mm.
Cost of the barrel blank can be $300+ in 9mm.
IIRC, headspacing is very easy achieved by the fact
that the barrel is threaded and nut-locked in the forward receiver.



I have done it too a couple of times on some
of my sub9's when I was heavy into them,
but I don't usualy work on other people's guns.

I used mags pinned to 5rnds for years
until the CGN collective intelligence convinced me
that a S&W pistol mag (12rnds pinned to 10)
is perfectly legal.

The Keltec experience was very interesting
and thought me that guns like 12ga pumps
or good ol' 10/22's have no equal :)
